have been here many times due to how convenient it is. the new outdoor area is great. unfortunately the food is consistently average. I wouldn't order anything fancy here. drinks are decently priced and the snacks are fine.

It's a nice environment, the people at the reception are friendly and welcoming to non-members.
The food is disappointing. It's not bad, but for the price tag it is definitely not worth it.
Few vegetarian options and small portions. The steamed dumplings were overcooked.

Love the atmosphere, we usually come here for food. As a member you get savings on the food. Each night they have different theme. Steak night, Burger night, Pizza, etc. Nice for a quick bite and a beer. Recommended.

There's nothing sadder than being tired in the afternoon because you were busy with emergency bookings all lunch hours and now you desperately need a coffee and feed but all the local coffee shops and lunch hours are over... Don't despair, don't resort to petrol station food eaten in the car! Instead go to Magpies Waitara enjoy Delicious traditional Aussie cafe food and coffee, served by helpful and friendly staff in comfy seats in a pleasant environment. Feel civilised and get back to work revived.

When I ordered the chicken burger I wasn't expecting it to be the size of a kids happy meal. Smallest burger I think I've ever had and no more than 10 chips to go with it. Thought I may of ordered a kids meal by mistake but a friend got a similar meal that was just as big. Wish I had a photo as reference but I definitely did leave unsatisfied.

Besides this I do love the place and the new garden area is great. But in the future will be eating meals before I arrive to the club.

Really appreciated the way they treated me as a cancer patient (I need my hat on me when I am out as I lost most of my hair because of my chemotherapy every 3 weeks) ?.

Small club with okay facilities, but the meals were a let down and the Asian cuisine, don't go there. Guiness on tap deserves another 0.5 star as that brightened the experience a little.

So great! Though I usually don't eat out, this was outright awesome! ?????'???

I remember attending Waitara P.S. and going here for graduation!!??'?????" It was quite emotional ?... but enough about that! Wide varieties of food, different cultural foods and also great beverages!! Must go! (Though I haven't tried it out yet, a new venue called 'The Garden'!! ?

A warm and friendly club. Opposite the train station. Bistro food with lots of variety/ pokies/ screens to watch sports, everything locals would be happy to have in a club.

If I could give less than 1 star I would

Disgraceful!!

Had a booking for my father's birthday with a large gathering to which upon arrival was told that there was no booking. The staff created a section and squished tables together where there was barley any room.

During the night this waitress who was quite young and on the smaller side was constantly nagging us if we were done eating. She asked me a few times with much attitude if I was done and gave me rude looks I told her "yes, take it away"

30 minutes later - the manager on duty 12/08/2023 around 8:15pm came to our table with zero professionalism and straight up said if any of us told his staff member to "f@#$ off"
With our shock we all said "no" - because NONE of us swore at anyone.
The manager had a rude tone and gave us attitude - my father went to explain that he is tired of the whole night and the manager cut him off and said "I'm only here to talk about who swore at my staff member not the other stuff"
I told the manager that we are trying to have a nice birthday and they ruined it with their accusations - I advised he needs to teach his staff to not lie and cause dramas for nothing. The manager would not leave and kept harrasing us for a long period of time until we all got up and left

The waitress and the manager need some serious action to be made against them or otherwise a simple back to training with the basic customer service skill manner as I can safely say that the whole birthday was ruined thanks to them and for the RSL not being organised - though the rudeness took the cake

Well laid out venue. Band stage has easy elevator load in direct to stage. Room is arranged so that customers can assemble and listen to the band but other customers can stay in other sections of the club without being bothered by the music ?

I had a lamb skewer. Really bad, almost raw meat. My teeth cannot cut the meat. I gave them feedback, the guy in cashier stated, you almost finished ( other ingredients, salad). I told him I am not asking to refund. I feel bad about " the kitchen". My first time to have meal here as a member. Will not order any food in the kitchen ever again.

Great club, staff always friendly. Huge range of food options (menu is almost too big...! Can choose between Western and Asian kitchens), and really reasonable prices for drinks. A great place to meet up with friends for a casual get-together.

Magpies Waitara are sponsoring our soccer club Normanhurst Eagles, due to this my family and I decided to go for dinner tonight. The place was packed!!! I nearly left but there are so many tables we found a spot, didn't wait to long to
order and the food came out very quickly. The best part was the food, it was delicious. Utterly lovely. Fabulous friendly staff, many staff (well organised). Great price point and will join next time we go. Thanks Lisa M

Food was ok.
Some of the bar staff need to reloaded the reason they are there is to serve customers.
Customers pay their wages and standing/holding up the till looks bad.
They should go to where the customer walks up to the bar and not make the customer go to them.

In all my years in hospitality management I would push my staff to focus on customers.

The food isn't worth the money, the Asian food is soaked in msg and chemicals. The nachos I ordered were severely dried along with the three sauces. The service was good overall I wouldn't come back a second time.

Truthfully I'd recommend you go elsewhere for a meal or entertainment. This place is where hope goes to die. The carpets are crusty the furniture is cheap: basically it's a tired and sad looking club.

The "restaurant" has a limited food selection. Don't you dare ask to deviate from the set preparation styles of their steaks and ask for medium rare, there are only three different cooking methods offered: raw, well done, or completely cremated.

Sadly we never got to try the Asian menu as the Asian section was closed and I've heard this section is actually quite good.

Staff lovely and helpful, extremely friendly.
I was there for a function which had some catering attached to it. The food was very tasty and presented well.
Mozzarella sticks, spinach and feta triangles, spring rolls, cheese plates as well as fruit plates. Presented well.

Outstanding quality services! I had an opportunity to have my graduation party at Magpies Waitara and was more than satisfied by the customer care and services received from the day I was arranging my event to the activity day! My guests were also satisfied!
I wish I can give more than 5stars! Many thanks to Michelle the event manager! I strongly recommend this venue for any functions! Their cuisine is so amazing as well!

Brought in as a guest by a friend. Nice and cosy "RSL like" club with food, gaming and live TV. Food and drink prices reasonable and members get discount. Daily roast meals on rotation. Friendly service.

It's ok for a quick bite to eat of a night but this place is nowhere near as popular as it was before its fairly lengthy period of lockdown closure last year, and I can see why....
The Asian bistro seems to be under new management and the number of dishes available on the menu appears to have been slashed by at least half, leaving for the most part the extremely bland dishes as the main choices - the stir-fried chicken and vegetables I had recently tasted of almost nothing at all and, to be frank, were just a stodgy, slimy mess reminiscent of a large portion of airplane food. It wouldn't be so bad if when I asked for some chopped chilli to pep things up a bit they had given me more than 4 tiny, razor thin slices of a small birds-eye chilli!

The main bistro is still ok - although again, the menu has had a major haircut. But the food is still ok. Although, they could seriously do with MORE vegetables on their roast meals - FAO chefs - TWO tiny miniature roasted chat potatoes on a large roast dinner is NOT enough.

A quick look at the menu on the wall behind the cafe section also tells a sorry story - at least 75 % of the previously listed items have been taped over and are now unavailable. It's the perfect metaphor for Magpies, unfortunately.

I used to come here almost every week. I'm not so keen anymore - and I'm probably not the only one.

Got to say this was a pleasant surprise. Had lunch here with some friends. Kids enjoyed the playground and the food was great and exceeded our expectations. We will definitely come back again.

Extremely disappointed. I came to celebrate St Patrick's Day with friends and family at the Shamrock Inn (for the past 14 years), then to have for the first time ever, my friends 14 year old son (who's been coming since he was 6 months old) kicked out for being under 18. The signs at the premises and website clearly state that it is against the law to sell or supply to under 18's but nothing about sitting with friends and family drinking a pink lemonade celebrating his heritage, to be against the law. Once a family friendly establishment for the annual St Patrick's Day celebration, now a complete disappointment.

The Chinese restaurant was once one of the very best on the North Shore. BUT I was greatly disappointed with our lunch. Our regular dishes were absolutely tastelessMaybe the Chefs forgot the garlic/ginger & other spices .The orginal Chefs are no longer there which is a great shame as the menu does not have a lot to choose from and definitely not as tasty & enjoyable as when they 1st opened. Not recommend the Chinese restaurant BUT the Bistros roast of the day looked very tempting, maybe next time

What a great little club this place is!
I must have been driving past it for about 40 years and it took me until NY Day to drop in.
The club looks like it has been rebuilt or renovated in the last few years as everything is spick and span. None of the tell-tale stains of spilt beer on the furniture or anywhere else. The rest rooms were spotless as well.
The food options include a café for cakes and coffee, a carvery with roasts etc. and a Chinese food outlet; The Lucky Magpie.
There were three of us and we chose the Chinese. What we were unprepared for was the generosity of the servings. They are obviously aware of this because we were not the only ones to request a doggy bag.
Apart from being plentiful the food was delicious.
All in all the staff were friendly and helpful, the service was good, the food delicious and the drinks were cold.
Just the place to escape from the heat for a few hours.
We will return soon!
