The dining area has changed since we last visited, prior to COVID. Diners are no longer able to help themselves to the free soup buttered bread, salad and/or vegetables from a smorgasbord area. Meals are still ordered and paid for at the bar, but are plated up in the kitchen and delivered to the table by staff. This means the only variation to the size of meals are between normal size and senior sized meals. Prior to COVID, people could help themselves to exactly the salad/s and or vegetables they preferred and were also able to plate up the quantity of food they preferred. Because of this, and the reasonably priced meals, the venue was often popular with senior customers and customers seeking value for money and or with a preference for helping themselves. We noticed the two times we have been recently, that there are not as many diners. Pre COVID you had to ring and reserve a table or you missed out. The two lunchtimes we were there recently there were plenty of tables available and no need to book ahead. The menu also now only offers a limited choice of meals which was disappointing. The number of vacant tables and reduced number of diners means the atmosphere is not as inviting. We won't be back until we hear things have returned to how the way things were done prior to COVID. The bar and wait staff provide the same level of service they always have, however we felt the standard of the meals coming from the kitchen to be basic and disappointing in comparison to pre COVID times.
