We found this pub to have lunch on the long weekend.
I'm vegetarian so quite limited in my food choices.
Bernie, the manager of the kitchen, ensured we received the most delicious vegetarian schnitzel and pasta dishes, and ensured there were no hidden nasties in the ingredients!
Thank you for your efforts in making our meals the best vegetarian we've ever had in a pub!

Hired the function room here for my birthday. I would give 10 stars if I could, they were absolutely amazing. I set with Penelope whilst organising everything, she was absolutely incredible and nothing was a problem. On the day she checked in every now and then making sure everything was ok which was really appreciated. There was a little problem with the music before everyone arrived but all the staff worked tirelessly to fix it for me and found a solution which I was very happy with before people arrived. The food was also amazing, all my guest were very impressed with the food. We had a lot left over and Penny and the team supplied us with take away containers for all the food and extra ones for people to fill up their own little takeaway containers to take home. I was so incredibly impressed with everything and would 100 percent recommend ???
We also stayed upstairs for the night and the rooms were nice and comfortable And very handy after a night of celebrating.

The best steak I have had this year including
last year. We come here every week and it was way above any steak meal in Newcsatle. Value blew me away. Awesome, the best tasting steak. Keep up the great work chefs and staff. Byron Littlewood.

Great Iconic Pub. Staff friendly kitchen offers great range of good food. All affordable to everyone's budget.
Highly recommend if living in area. I would recommend checking website for nightly specials and events.

Went for lunch. Not much to choose from on the menu. Not many there at all, though felt as if it was get in and get out, as if the Bistro was full. Very rushed. Not good service. Very disappointing. Not going there again.Also felt like we were at a playground with kids everywhere as they had a play area inside the Bistro.Thought we might of been at Mecca's. Agree with other reviews, the lady serving was quite abrupt and rude.

We had dinner tonight (18/08/23) I had the sirloin steak and my partner had the chicken parigiana. We were both very happy with our meals. I order my steak medium rare and it was cooked to perfection. I don't remember the last time I have had a steak that was so delicious, compliments to the Chef. My partner was also very happy with her chicken parigiana. Our meals came out very quick and that is always a plus.

The front of house staff and the bar staff were exceptional. The manager and publican should be proud of the team they have.

We will definitely be back!

Went here for dinner with my family, we all ordered together but our food came out spread over an hour. They came to our table at least once to ask us to substitute something because they had run out. It didn't seem that busy there but they assured us it was. I got a veggie burger and I'd recommend giving it a pass.

The pub itself seems nice on the pub side but the restaurant side is strangely set up and uninviting.

Rooms are clean, tidy and comfy.
Staff friendly and accommodating.
Ordered the Rissoles for Dinner and could not fault them. Reasonably priced and order came out in a reasonable time , a few there for dinner and was expecting a longer wait time.
Definitely will be back

I stayed here twice to visit family at the JH hospital.. queen room was great, most comfortable bed ever. Lady at the reception was amazing and so hospitable. I can't thank her enough.

Had dinner here and the food was big portions the way a classic pub meal should be - parmy was good, good amount of cheese on top and the chicken was large. Felt very full and satisfied afterwards, only $27. Happy with this ??'??

Hired out one of the function rooms which included finger-food wraps skewers cheese platters hot food fruit platters ect all came out on time and well displayed, we had some technical issues with the sound system but we settled for a portable speaker to get us through. Service was exceptional and staff went above and beyond to make sure our night was fantastic. I can't thank you all enough for your hard work and putting up with my neediness to make mums 50th one to remember. Thank you to you all!

Had lunch here with family.
Snitzels were good. My husbands steak was ok. I had the chilli prawns in nepolitano sauce with sour dough.
It was ok. Too much sauce and could have used a better sourdough.
Would not have it again.

Poor effort from the crew tonight, tables that booked ahead of time were not allowed to place meal orders due to time management related to a large party arriving (not booked) and being prioritised first. Could've been a great night for everyone with a bit more forethought. Staff offered no compromise, stated following orders; hungry patrons left for food elsewhere. Shame. The entertainment would have been fantastic for the now relocated birthday party.

I had the Mushroom and Goat Cheese Pizza for $14 not too heavy not too light and incredibly creamy with that tangy goats cheese! Yum!

Hubby went to buy a drink can of Jim beam and Jack Daniels and was unable to, was told that could only buy by the glass. $17.40 FOR 2 middies. Barmaid had the personality of a wet sandshoe. Ordered rissoles and veg and schnitzel and veg. Rissoles were rare inside and the carrots had pepper all over them on both our meals. I'm sorry but if I wanted pepper on my meal, I will add this myself after all that is why there is salt and pepper on the table. would not recommend. Also, we sat in the bistro area kids were running between tables and in and out of the play area. We will not be going back was really disappointed.

Went there for dinner with my elderly aunt.. easy access for her mobility walker . Lovely helpful staff and absolutely fantastic meal..could not rate it more highly.

Food was fantastic. Had the "special" pizza with Prawns, Salmon, red onion etc. Was great value at $23. The Calamari and Mexican pizza were also popular choices on our table.
Ordered a cocktail jug and was given 2 schooner glasses with it.
I went back and asked for cocktail glasses and was given an anoyed look and some wine glasses.
Was very noisy even in the restaurant as it was raffle night.

Good sized portions for the meals, reasonably priced and very tasty. The staff were amazing, and the atmosphere was top notch. Great local pub.

The bar staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The food was very tasty especially the beetroot and goats cheese salad.
The live band were awesome, playing music for all generations.

We waited over an hour and a half for our meal when we asked the lady at the counter she was very rude and abrupt and said look at all the dockets and urs is there, she was rude also when taking our order. Our meal was nice however One of our meals on our order was wrong and after reading on google reviews they make their rissoles with sausage mince thank goodness they ran out of them coz I almost ordered them. Just be prepared for a long wait for your food, and not friendly service.

Horrible experience, waited a total 2 hours for our order to arrive, when asking the kitchen staff nicely how much longer they were abrupt and rude "take a look around" 5 mins!!! Absolute disgrace way to treat paying customers.
Got the order wrong asked for chips got mashed potato.
People who ordered after us got their food first.
Will never return even if the meal was free

Great location. Nice quiet pub for lunch with friendly helpful staff. Clean loos ??'?. I ordered the Squid, chips n salad. Great meal with plenty (if not too many) beautifully cooked battered Squid rings. Perfect salad & dressing BUT even though the chips looked great they were covered in WAY too much salt & some weird tasting herb! Why?? Anyway, I couldn't eat the chips but everything else was perfect....

Large establishment cold beer friendly staff been consistent for a long time now.

Went for lunch on a Sunday. I ordered the Salmon with Vegetables and my partner had a burger. We both weren't very impressed. The salmon was dry and the vegetables were not good. Just peas and corn that took up half the plate and looked like it came straight out of a frozen bag and mash. My partner's burger for was very small for $20. Overpriced for what you get.

Nice cold beer and GR8 games it still has a pool table.

Really awesome and comfortable place. Never heard of the place till poker was there, but will definitely be back. Drinks are decent price. That poker kingdom is absolutely mint.

Beautiful meal. Shame the bar staff don't understand the truth behind the word "hospitality". I swear the woman behind the bar would rather have measles than serve beer & food. Not sure I will go back.

Lack of vegan options for dining , in saying that they had a nice vegan schnitzel however 1 small piece of lettuce, small tomato and onion is a sad salad. A small scoop of mashed potato didn't help the value for money. Nags Head down the road better options and value

I must admit I was a bit surprised by the quality of the food here. Sensational chicken schnitzel, tasty burgers and an admirable bangers and mash. They'll be seeing me again when I'm next in Newcastle that's for sure.
