Bruthen Inn Hotel

We were here on a very busy night. Unfortunately the pub was really understaffed. It took 40 minutes in line to order dinner. However the kitchen staff did an amazing job and we didn't wait too long for the meals. Food was really good. Hopefully they are able to recruit more staff for busy nights.

We were near Bruthen doing a hike and dropped in for lunch just before 2 pm cutoff. The staff were unperturbed and took our orders. The meal was tasty and large. We're glad we stopped.

On recommendation from the friendly folk at Rivendell Farm Estate we popped in here for a late Monday lunch. The lovely lady behind the bar, Stretch, took our order over the phone as we were going to miss the 2pm cutoff. The chicken schnitzel, gummy fish and a couple of pints of Carlton Draught didn't disappoint. We dinned under the sunshine of the beer garden and enjoyed the atmosphere of an honest country pub. Highlight - our greeting from the pub dog!

Have had meals here quite a few times and always been very good.
Very generous servings, just like the pubs always used to serve up. Before pubs got fancy.
Good old fashioned service, great atmosphere and the friendly staff make the whole experience very enjoyable.

I definitely judged a book by its cover when arriving to this pub.
I initially thought it was abandoned/ no longer running. But on entering I was plesently surprised. The venue is quaint, and the back beer garden, has a stunning view especially on sunset.
The food was AMAZING. We took the risk on ordering an Italian dish in rural Australia and I was again, pleasantly surprised. The vegetarian pasta was it was full of big juicy olives, roasted eggplants and mushroom.
The staff, in particular "stretch" were quintessential, friendly rural pub folk, happy to go out of their way to help.
To top it off the newly renovated rooms with a view of the fields and sunsets were clean and welcoming.

Stayed overnight.
Rooms basic and okay by pub standards.
It was hot, but not a fan in sight.
Dinner was good, and large portions.
"Continental breakfast" was a joke.
We were told to help ourselves in the morning. Well, would have been nice to have something available but as there was NO bread (only 2 crusts in a packet in the fridge, (and we weren't the only ones staying) and little else available, we had little choice but to go elsewhere.
No staff on site to provide assistance, that we could see. We were essentially locked in a particular part of the building (or locked out) whichever you prefer.
Shouldn't charge or advertise something that you're not providing!
Very disappointing.

This place looks like nothing from the outside, but the beer and food were surprising to say the least. The views from out the back on a nice day are stunning.

Star Rating is all a bit relative isn't it. Location is 4 star if you need to be in Bruthen, room was clean and tidy but only had a bed and side table really. The little sink had a broken soap dispenser and no hot water, and at night we were locked away from the car. Staff really friendly and happy to provide, but obviously not there at night. Bathroom facilities were also basic with nowhere to hang or put clothing, but clean and fresh facility. Staying in a country pub this is what is all about. Lovely to have a breakfast facility, but it was pretty scant, 10 jars off jam, and nothing savoury, Vegemite jar was empty, no butter and only white bread, but we enjoyed it. You can't expect much for your $100 these days, but it still felt expensive to us Tasmanians. We had our country pub experience :).

And dinner was great and well priced. We were made to feel very welcome and all staff we spoke to were absolutely full of country hospitality. And that is very special these days.
