Made a dinner reservation for Tuesday 28 may due to the website looking like a nice Irish hotel for dinner. What a big disappointment. The menu was nothing like a good old Irish pub and when we arrived nothing was prepared for us. The menu had a choice of about 12. The staff even had to ask a couple to move to make room for us. There was a bar down stairs but not open and we had to walk up stairs to order our meals and drinks. The place as advertised on website is not what you get. Recommend not going here. I asked for steak Medium/well and it came out medium/rare

3 star for good location. Zero for room and service.

I mistakenly booked this hotel for my mother based on Agoda reviews (probably fake). Receptionist mistook my paid booking for someone that has not paid, and almost turn my mother away. There was NO LIFT facility. Which hotel in a big city like Sydney in 2024 that does not have a lift!!! When my mother asked about the lift, the receptionists raised her voice at her and said it's already been mentioned on the website. What website!!! Room is tiny and bed is right next to the toilet door. Noisy pub downstairs and roadworks outside all night, plus fire alarm going off in the middle of the night just summed up this worst hotel experience. Never again.

Didn't stay in the accommodation, but I had dinner. I ordered the Irish stew and ended up with the wrong order, someone else got my order. The other person ended up eating what I ordered, and what I got was a beef and Guinness pie, which was quite nice. When I realised I had the wrong order, the bay tender was very apologetic and offered me something else with my dinner, which is something I've never been offered. I did just ask for a drink which I was happy with. Excellent customer service.

The location of this hotel was awesome! All of the main sights were within about a 15 minute walk. It was also easy to access the trains and busses. There are tons of coffee shops, restaurants, and even grocery stores within just a few blocks of the hotel. Although it's over a very lively bar, the rooms were pretty quiet.

Good place to have a meal. Customer service is okay. Some staff do not seem to enjoy serving customers so more training may be required. Drinks are very expensive. Cheapest wine is about $10 a glass and the glass is only filled up a quarter of the way!!! Meal servings could be bigger as well.

Called in for dinner before Tina Turner show (which was amazing by the way) and had an $18 snitty, chips n salad. Just beautiful, plenty of fresh food and great price and didn't wait long to place order or receive order. Hotel was clean, other patrons were not rowdy, staff were nice.

A group of 7 of us from New Zealand stayed before and after we went on our cruise. The service from the criterion to accomodate us and all our luggage was exceptional ? they looked after us and our luggage at all times, definitely 5 stars, the meals were awesome and well priced one of our lot even had the Irish stew 2 nights in a row!! Thank you to everyone that looked after us ( cant remember all your names) we will highly recommend you to anyone wanting to stay in Sydney that is convenient to all attractions in Sydney
Thanks team x

Went for Thurs Parmi special.Quality of chicken fillet is good, though smaller than many on offer for similar special price.Staff helpful and courteous. All sports on offer in Front bar,but if had known special was available in the Bistro, would have preferred atmosphere there.

Nor really much to recommend it.
I stopped by for a quick beer on my way to another function. The selection of tap beer available was not extensive and so I ended up with a couple of stubbies. No problems with that except that I requested my Coopers stubby not to be shaken prior to pour. I have been told that that is the way that it is meant to be drunk, but I don't like my beer tasting of sediment waste from the brewing process. But I am old school.
The beers were nice and cold, service wasn't especially friendly and I didn't get what I asked for. I left most of the beer on the bar on my way out.
Years ago I drank at the Criterion regularly after work when I worked in a nearby bar. Part of my reason for stopping by was nostalgia. The current Criterion is not the Criterion of old so I won't be back.

I had a pleasant experience at the Criterion Hotel bar! Its location near Town Hall station was very convenient. The staff were friendly, and the downstairs bar area had a great atmosphere. The presence of a games room with a tab and pokies was a nice addition. Ordering food at the bar was convenient as well. However, it's worth noting that the toilet is located downstairs, which may pose accessibility challenges for individuals with mobility issues.

Pleasant service and great location for ease of the city. A little cramped upstairs with smaller table options although if just stopping for a beverage then this is ideal. If you are wanting to eat then better option is to make your way downstairs, much more room down there. Decorated very well and the meals were fresh and delicious. My steak was cooked to my liking. Order at the bar and then will be brought to your table.

Good place in town for a recharge. Plenty of areas to sit and the noise is bearable. You can have a large group (10 for me) and not have to yell at each other. Would be better with some low no alcohol beers.

Good atmosphere. Downstairs is a good retreat to chat.
Food was above expectations, Parmigiana 8+,
Rump cooked as ordered and VG - highly recommended.
Would definitely come back when we leave N.E Victoria.

I have been to this pub a few times just out of convenience only, even from the first visit the staff were rude, the beer is overpriced, food subpar at best and the fact that there is no smoking/vaping area except for the pokies area is perfect evidence of how shameless this pub is in providing a poor standard of literally everything! While trying to take the maximum from every patron.. Do NOT waste your time here!
I would give zero stars but I can't unfortunately

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. A great location in the Sydney CBD. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They had a good selection of beers on tap and the meals were very reasonably priced and delicious for 'pub food'. I will be going back.

Recently visited the Criterion Hotel for food and drinks and was pleasantly surprised. I had the rump steak and it was perfectly cooked. Was delighted to see they had Magners cider and Guinness, which was a great pint.
Staff were great and very friendly.
I will definitely be back again.

$5.50 for a small soda with lime!?! That's Highway robbery! Asked for a medium rare steak and it was extremely well done. Mushroom sauce was clearly made from powder. Yuck.

A great pub. Not pretentious, not trying to be something it's not, not trying to be 'cool'. Just really good at being a comfortable place that enjoys sport and appreciates it's art deco vibe. Love it when you walk in and it feels like home.

Good, well run traditional pub. The range of beers in tap is more than sufficient and the kitchen produces the dishes you expect, properly and quickly. The location is extremely convenient, good place to meet.

Warwick is one of the oldest European settlements in Queensland, and so naturally has a lot of history on its streets. But something special about the townscape is its sense of unity: The stately sandstone buildings around the CBD mostly date from a period of redevelopment in the late-19th century and early-20th century following a flood.Theres a concentration of this Federation architecture over a few blocks on the parallel Palmerin, Albion and Guy Streets, waiting to be enjoyed on a gentle walk. Some of the standouts are Warwick Town Hall (1888), the Court House (1886), St Andrews Uniting Church (1870), the Post Office (1898), the Criterion Hotel (1917), Condamine Sports Club (1913) and St Georges Lodge (1887).

I visited the bar of Criterion Hotel with my friends and partners at 8pm On July 22, 2020 . The beverage service and the infield staff were fine. Only the security guard standing at the entrance was suspected to make things difficult for me. When I walked into the dining area with two other male friend and only checked my credentials. Of course, this may be only part of his responsibilities.I was waiting for friend to order a drink on my seat, and I didnt realize at the first time that customer registration app indicator of Covid Safe Plan is located in-front of the bar.The security guard didnt have to come forward and onlyask me to register for the app, also "Touch" my arm at the same time!!Physical contact with customers it doesn't look wise with social distance at the moment, right? In addition, why two other male friends of mine did not get any notification of the registration message from this security guard!"The security guard involved in touching my part of body, which on unnecessary.Whether it involves sexual harassment in public places or anti-Asia discrimination. When he touching my arm dose he sanitiser his hands first ?Is the employee training and workplace education insufficient? Shouldn't all employees agree to abide with the Manage Diversity in the Workplace when entering employment? Todays experience disappointed me and felt been violated!

The staff who greeted us at the bar is great/awesome. But the hotel is so disappointing. No elevator up to 3rd floor. We have to carry our luggage up to our room. No slippers. No phone to contact the reception. Bathroom too small and the ventilator is very loud that It seems like theres a helicopter thats going to land. No fridge. Stayed there for 2 nights With my family but the room wasnt fixed even once during our stay. Worst experience so far. But I can give % thumbs up to the staff who assist us and showed us our room. She is awesome!

The Criterion Hotel is a 1936 Inter-War Art Deco hotel, corner of Park and Streets. This beautiful articulated face brick fašade has been carrying on from the original name of Criterion Theatre which was the original business that occupied the current site. The loadbearing and terracotta tiles with timber windows make for a stunning fašade. It is compared to the Edinburgh Castle Hotel down the corner of Pitt and Bathurst Streets for its long existence in the area carrying the same name all these years. Love walking past here and admiring its beautiful fašades especially knowing its history. It still operates today as hotel providing budget accommodation as well as a licensed pub. Worth a peek.
