Customs House Hotel, Newcastle NSW

We found this gem by accident during our visit from Alaska! Apparently they have a new chef and new menu! Our steak was perfection and the watermelon salad was exceptional. Our compliments to the Chef! And thank you Grace. Lovely dining experience !!

One of the most beautiful pubs in Newcastle. The staff and service are top notch and the views are unmatched. Perfect spot for an afternoon beer. Massive beer garden out front is perfect for large groups and dog friendly. Great pub.

Lunch with my partner. First time, we recently had lunch here in Newcastle and unfortunately, it was quite disappointing. We ordered a beef burger and calamari, but both dishes were far from satisfying. The beef burger was extremely dry, and the calamari was not only dry but also very oily. We were already hungry when we arrived, and to make matters worse, we waited 35 minutes for our food. When we finally checked on our order, only one burger had arrived, and we had to wait even longer for the second dish. The kitchen seemed disorganized, as I noticed other patrons also checking on their food status. The service was poor, with long waits and little attention to detail. Sadly, this experience has left us with no desire to return for lunch.
Don't recommend it.

Highly recommend! We recently hosted a special event at Customs house in the Harbour view lounge - and it was incredible! Not only was the communication seamless and so helpful in the lead up (special thank you to Hannah), the team was brilliant on the night! It was a flawless event and everyone had the best time. Some stunning views from the Harbour lounge too. Thank you Hannah, Ella, Ella and team!

Felt like a steak for Sunday night dinner. For a pub there was only one option which was surprising but it was Sunday night. 300g Sirloin with chips and salad. The salad was nothing special but fresh. Chips were how I like them, crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle. The steak was interesting. A little dry in spots, but not bad. Possibly my fault as I like steaks medium and this was a low fat steak. I like fat on a steak and the parts that had some fat were perfect. Cooked perfectly for a medium steak and beautifully seared on the outside with a nice flame grill. Don't let me sound like I am complaining. If I could cook a steak like this I would be more than happy and so much better than many steaks I have had recently.
As for the two young ladies who looked after me I hope the pub looks after them. Excellent service. Polite, attentive and first class.
Give the pub a go. Excellent value for money and overall a great experience.
