Charming rustic vibe with cozy rooms. Friendly staff and excellent pub food, especially the schnitzels. Perfect spot for a getaway or a stop during a 4x4 adventure in the high country. Highly recommend!

One of those Iconic Pubs you have to visit and get the photo.
Unfortunately that's where it ended for us. Visited this pub twice and the service was less than friendly.
Food was good though, camped over the Australia Day long weekend and felt like we were putting them out by asking to camp, grass out the back was about a foot high would have thought they'd put a slasher through before a long weekend.

Real shame because it's a great and character filled little pub and the patrons are great just a pity the staff were sour on both our visits.

We stopped here after a trip out to Dargo, what a beautiful area!
As with all good pubs, the beer was cold and went down well. The food was great and the portions huge, I think our dog left with a full belly too as we were able to bring them into the garden area.
Obviously the pub is a victoriana icon and for good reason.

Got a cabin for the night on a 4x4 trip with my wife. Great old country pub with quirky deco, and the food is generous and tasty! Had a great night with the friendly locals in the bar, and the staff were hospitable and the service swift! The campground out the back seemed to get a bit wild as the night rolled on but it didn't bother us and it looked as everyone out there was having a great time anyway ?
The log cabin was cozy and clean. Hope to return!

Beautiful iconic location. We travelled the Dargo High Plains road from Hotham, road in excellent condition, we had an all wheel drive, no issues.
Meals at the pub were tasty and very large, I should have gone the half serve schnitzel!!
We stayed in one of the Log cabins, rustic, but had everything we needed. Main bed was quite firm.
Only thing missing was a couch or some outdoor furniture, otherwise bring your own deck chair to sit on the deck and enjoy the great views.
Would travel here again.

Last weekend, me and 6 of my friends came up to celebrate my mates bucks party. We came and had tea, food looked absolutely amazing, unfortunately tasted horrible.
We all spent a great amount of money and sat out the front trying to enjoy a drink, we all were keeping quiet , one of the workers came out the front and questioned every single person about why we were there and what we had planned for the night and to
Keep away from everyone and made us feel very unwelcome. Told us to leave and to keep to ourselves?. Not quite sure why as we all were keeping to ourselves. The pub itself is unreal. The service and food was questionable

We enjoyed our meal at the Pub, good steak, great Parmy. Good choice of beers.

We stayed in a log cabin, it was cold inside, the AC barely took the -3 out of the air, lucky for the electric blanket, good hot shower.

The staff were friendly and helpful.

The first thing that greeted us as we entered the cabin, was the disgusting smell of the septic sewerage, which could be smelt in the cabin
There were no cooking facilities, bench space or cupboards to store our belongings
We were woken up every morning by the sound of trucks or electrical equipment.
So much for a peaceful getaway ?
The cabin felt claustrophobic with no chairs or sofa to sit on
I would not recommend this place to anyone
We will never go back there again!!!!!!!!!!!

Response to DARGO hotel
Email 1.
Thank you for your prompt response.
We did bring this to the attention of your staff behind the bar, and we asked him to move us to the last cabin. He did not ask us
the reason for the move but said the last cabin was booked on Saturday night.

It is despicable that you, as the owner, knew about this problem with your septic, but, continued to take our money and house us in this cabin.
We would have appreciated learning about the septic 'problem' so we could have had a choice about staying at your hotel.
We would have appreciated a refund. Given your response, we will now notify the relevant bodies of the problem with the septic sewerage at your establishment in the near future.

This pub has so much character that it's hard to put in words. Bar keeps are very friendly and love a chat. Beers are cold, and food is hot. And you can camp in their back paddock with the sheep. There is plenty to explore in the area, and the Vic High Country bekons. Stop in. It's worth it. It was a little chilly over the weekend so make sure you have warm clothes and sleeping arrangements. The wind was also howling through town during the night, so make sure you use big pegs for the tent.

First time visit and won't be the last visit. The scotch fillet plate... was the best I've ever had... I've been around Victoria and into Adelaide, this beats them all... thank you to chef and staff

Always have a great time at Dargo
Ive been here about 10 times over the last 5 years, camped out the back a few times and even spent 5 nights in one of the log cabins.
Highly Recommend

We arrived late after a bit of a rough morning at 13:55hr. Food service said 12-2pm so as it was close to the wire. So I asked with a smiling face are you still serving food? After 3 staffs opinions we got an answer with a blunt 'no steak'. So to confirm 'you are still happy to serve us?'. 'No steak' was my reply again.
After a few moments of deciding (and we were about ready) a miserable and grumpy women in the kitchen said 'we haven't got all day, it's a holiday' at which stage I felt we were not welcome. None of the 10 (yes 10) kitchen staff had a smile or a friendly demeanour.
We worked out.
I must say the bar staff were smiling and welcoming, but at this stage we didn't even want a drink.
If you are not happy to serve, don't open or get another job/ business.
The Dargo pub is obviously doing well, there are some great reviews, they obviously don't need our custom. My husband, 7 year old daughter and I were so looking forward to visiting Dargo and truly wanted to patronise the Dargo Pub, but we have left very disappointed not with not eating the pub food, but the unfriendliness of the staff.
I certainly didn't want to pay a surcharge for such grumpy and unfriendly service.
I do hope they enjoy the rest of their Easter though and the people still eating lunch were not rushed out.
N/A room stay.

Dargo Hotel was fantastic, the staff friendly and the food great. We camped next the the river with hot showers and clean toilets provided. Shop across the road provided breakfast and coffee in the morning

We had lunch at the amazing Dargo pub yesterday.
The staff are lovely, helpful and friendly
The experience is everything you would expect from a high country pub.

Our food was served quickly and oh my goodness, the meals are huge very tasty and the menu has something for everyone.

The hotel and the staff are great. Camp area around the back is pretty but the crowds were rough. Too many campers with no respect for the campsite rules and nobody was policing it either. Groups of young guys making a lot of noise, swearing, lighting fires without pits and revving their cars early in the morning and late at night.

Cabin was nice and rustic no TV or WiFi or any other modern facilities toilet kept running so that with the small fridge that were very noisy was annoying to sleep but being told off when ordering a meal for tea because we hadn't pre booked or ordered that we may have wanted a pub or counter meal on our stay was very odd as the cabin was very expensive and I have travelled worldwide and never been told off when asking for a pub meal

A classic Aussie pub feed. So good, we got the bbq chicken parmi and half portion of the Hawaiian chicken parmi. Everything was fresh and tasted great!

Service is rather poor, staff generally serve the regulars/locals first followed by the second class citizens from elsewhere. Some of the locals outside seem rather feral and appear to frown upon anyone that looks like they are from an urban or city setting. Without tourism this venue more than likely wouldn't be the same as it is today. In saying that food was good and a few of the staff were quite friendly and up for a chat.

Food was not too bad, didn't know there was a live band on, so after spending around $150 in food and drinks (plus the other 7 people we were with spending a significant amount of money) my partner went to go to the car and security told him he can't come back in, I went to see what was happening then was told we can come back in if we purchase a $25 wrist band, I couldn't justify that after what we had already spent, plus what my partner and our friends would have spent / already had spent on alcohol on top of that. Fair enough if we were told about it from the start but we weren't and it's not like they were going through making sure everyone had wrist bands when there was plenty without.

Iconic location in the middle of every where. Cold drinks and good traditional pub meals.
Camping available with creek frontage...nice to cool off in on warm days. It's a pity the grass wasn't mowed during the Xmas period and although Camping area clearly says music and load behaviour to finish at 9.00 some people can't read ?
