What a lovely gem of an oasis this hotel is. We had been driving up from Hobart towards Queens town, through hairy roads at night and found this lovely place to stop and have some dinner. From the minute you walk in the warmth and ambience of the dining room is amazing. The seats and tables reflected the wilderness of the area, the huge fireplaces with the roaring fires and the timber walls and high ceilings are lovely. The food was amazing and a good price, the staff very friendly and welcoming. The fluffy throws on each chair to put over your legs if a bit nippy all added to the cosy atmosphere. Will definitely be back here again when down this way.

Wonderful people helped us with a last minute meal as we arrived late during the week to overnight before heading on. A beautiful pub and well worth the visit.

Beautiful place in the middle of no where
Essentially the only place you can stop for a meal between Hobart and Strahan. Friendly staff, warm log fires and food was delicious!!

Great meals and service. The publicans are awesome. You can park up your fully self contained caravan in the carpark overnight. Highly recommend this establishment

Had a meal after a long drive in the Motorhome on the Lyell Highway. Staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. Meals were excellent and the venue is very unique, like a medieval feasting hall with a huge open fire. Highly recommended.

Awesome spot!! Free camping outside, and the parmies are 10/10 good size, good cheese to sauce to meat ratio. Bravo will come back one day!

Beautiful 'Wilderness' Hotel.
The staff were lovely & accommodating. We enjoyed our stay but would advise a few things to expect when visiting.
Prices are higher than some places, they are in a remote and costs are accordingly. It is a more remote area so if you need anything specific, be prepared. The curry was beautiful, one vegan and one gluten free guest and they were very accommodating.
They provided a continental breakfast which was a nice touch and the rooms were very warm.

Came here for dinner and was pleasantly surprised! Started off with a bang with a great garlic bread cooked perfectly. Then, for mains, we had the chicken parmigiana and roast beef, both knock-out meals.
Yes, the price is slightly higher than what you'd pay in the cities, but it is definitely worth it!
It's a shame they didn't have any lamb. Otherwise, I would have ordered the lamb curry.

Lovely old hotel, approx 5 kms to St Clair. Great food and lovely hosts and staff. We had a shared bathroom literally across the hall. Room small but nice. Bed great. Continental breakfast included. Accommodation at a good price. Not many cheap dinner options, but food tasty and nicely presented. Highly recommended!

We were so excited to stop here. Location fantastic. We were so looking forward to a lovely meal and experience. Curry came with beef croquet. Croquet Sent back twice cold. Only to be told it would be rectified but never received. Offered a refund only to receive a $10 note. Staff not friendly at all. No fire or duke box going in bar area will pool table. No atmosphere at all. Very disappointing.

I decided to try out this place for lunch. I joined the queue to order food but when I got to the front I was asked if I was 'on the bus?' I wasn't so I had to wait for people who were 'on the bus' to be served. After that I asked if they could do a vegan version of their vegetarian burger. They asked me what vegan means. I had the feeling that wasn't a good sign. I was told by the man serving me that he'd have to check with the chef. Then he decided that he was too busy to check with the chef and that I should ask the other guy at the counter. Who served other people for a few minutes until I left.
I won't be coming back.

We stayed one night in Derwent Bridge and went to the Derwent Bridge Hotel for dinner.
We were very impressed when we walked in, what a beautiful hotel, with a huge fireplace with fire burning (it was a cold evening), and so much character.
Wow, our meals were awesome, the crispy pork belly was the best I've had in a long time, so tender and juicy and the crackling, omg.
My sister had the vegetable curry, which was also very delicious and served with rice and roti bread.
The staff were friendly and very efficient.
I highly recommend you stop in for a meal, or even just a drink at this lovely hotel.

Good place to stop over night in vans or campers that is very close to Lake St Clair and the National Park. FREE just have a meal or drink in the hotel. May also do some rooms. Public amenities across the road. Owned by a lovely couple.

Options for pub meals to curry. Open fires were lovely and a blanket was supplied for extra comfort as it was snowing on our arrival. well worth a stop over. For our full review, check out our Facebook / blog page or our YouTube channel

Great experience and service. After running the overland in a day we were on track to get in after checking closed. We managed to get friend (via sat coms) the ask front desk to leave keys out and also some meals in our rooms which they did. The staff went a step above by also putting our bags in our rooms, that we have left in storage with the hotel. It meant clean clothes onto top of the cooked meal after a cooked day.

Best hotel going around on the West Coast.

Super cool Bavarian style pub with big wooden ceilings and a nice roaring fireplace.

Really good Sri Lankan curries on the menu. Beer options are a tad limited, but at the end of the day it's reasonably priced and cold. Anything else is a bonus.

We stayed here as a last minute decision when it was too snowy for camping, what a delight it was! The staff are wonderful and really care about the place. Lovely welcoming restaurant area with a wood fire and the BEST Authentic Sri Lankan curry. The room was comfortable and everything we needed.
Highly recommend

The staff were super friendly and very attentive and polite. Food was amazing! Room and facilities while dated (In the best kind of way in my opinion, stuck in a time warp but oh so nostalgic) were adequate and in line with the charge. Definitely worth the stay while in the area! One of the best lodge style pubs I've ever had a cold beer in!

Amazing venue, delicious chef cooked food, and a cosy fire-crackling-alpine-cabin atmosphere. Perfect for dinner on a chilly Tassie night! Would definitely recommend a stop if you are traveling along the Lyell Highway in the evening.

Feels very warm inside and people are more than that. Meals here are indeed great. Free motor home, caravan and car park right in front of the hotel, public toilet across the road and dump site as well. Highly recommend.

The staff are so lovely and very helpful! We ordered the spaghetti bolognaise and chicken parmigiana and they were one of the best meals we have had on our holiday! Little expensive though but very delicious

Wow. This place is stuck in a time warp, but in a good way. It doesn't appear to have changed much in the 30, or so, years I've known it. Still warm and welcoming with good service. Why they've never pushed a veranda out the back and opened to the quiet bush setting, I don't know.
