We stayed in underground room. I would one night stay at underground room is a must experience. The hotel is neat but can be dusted better. It has a underground cafe, underground bar and souvenir shops. The spuvenir shops were not opened while were there. The food in Cafe and bar was good.

Great hotel in Coober Pedy, with good facilities. We really loved the bar and the service as well. Had a little issue with the room and the manager was able to change our room without any hassle.

A very unique and beautiful hotel. You can book room in upstairs or underground one. We have booked both types room in different days. Underground one is made to give you a feeling like you are in a cave room. The upstairs one is more open. Hotel itself has underground gallery, bar/restaurant, good info centre, which gives good options to explore around. The restaurant one and the gallery is very unique. Love how it has showcased it's beauty. Hotel has plenty of room for all type of people. Located is really good.

Stayed here recently for work. Room was neat and tidy but very dated. A engineering degree was needed to get the a/c working.
Room could have done with an actual queen bed not singles joined.
The water stains on the room and walls make the room look lije there was a lack of maintenance.
The fire alarm going off a 6am in the morning wasn't the greatest wake up call, and poor form on staff and guests in ignoring it.

Fantastic bar, great environment and lovely bar tenders. Underground bar and pokies is an experience you should not miss. Also there is a free museum which offers lots of valuable information about opal mining and town.

Functional and big rooms, great to experience an underground room. Shower was hot. Restaurant was a bit iffy so went else where. Central location, easy to walk to various locations, rather than drive.

Good breakfast and really fair price. The bar was nice and modern.
Rooms were a good size, clean and comfortable. Only feedback for the room was that they should provide better quality toilet paper for the rooms ( seems like public toilet quality toilet paper)

This hotel has good facilities, with a self guided tour section in the basement, most of it's 'dugout' rooms such as the bar and some rooms, were carved into the side of a hill which is handy for some people who feel uneasy about going underground.
Service at the bar was always slow, and at some times just didn't happen while the bar was open on one occasion after I ordered a drink and I was served, the bartender walked away and didn't serve my friend until he had wiped serval glasses and returned (unfortunately he was not busy serving customers so this felt off putting but I hope it was not intentional)
I would go back it was a great experience overall and I found most places in town to have a very laid back approach to customer service.

Coober Pedy an amazing place would highly recommend it to anyone. But if breakfast is your thing and you enjoy a pancake stack and a friendly waiter then you would definitely need to avoid the Desert Cafe.If you insist on going and having a pancake stack bring a chainsaw..

Ordered a Tequila Sunrise from underground bar. The girl behind the bar got snappy when I said what was in it. Replied she know how to make it. Proceeded to fill long glass with ice to the top. Told her to much ice, forget about making it. If I wanted water with my sunrise I would have just asked for OJ and ice. No thanks. No idea how to make a drink.

Came through 3 months ago, was greeted by a female General Manager who had colourful tattoos, excellent customer service and very professional. Myself and family were guided to our room, we were made to feel comfortable and had all of our questions answered. The Female, General Manager was checking in on us, ensuring our stay was great......We then decided Dropped through for a visit 11/1 with my hubby & kids, the atmosphere was stale, no professionalism, staff running around with no direction, we were not greeted nor able to use the pool. ( filthy full of algae ) we were going to stay but quickly changed our minds! Desert Cave Hotel, your going backwards, fast... won't be coming back.

The underground rooms were not worth the money they are just ground room floors with a bit of rock formation the fans are noisy and we went to check in at 4:30 after a 13 hour drive the lady at reception didn't say a word that wasn't very welcoming she drew on a map and circled where the room was and I said thanks and we headed to the room when we got to the room the cleaner was doing our room. So we had to leave the facility to go get fuel and give the cleaner time to do our room.

Pool dirty and eventually staff closed it for use after multiple enquires about cleaning regime. Restaurant and coffee shop closed for Reno's but not advised. Rooms average but not 4 star as advertised. Bar staff were great. Only positive was the bar and staff. Would not stay there again.

Upon arrival, we went to reception where we were greeted with very poor customer service, we were told to sign a piece of paper and given our key with no further information. We had to go and find our room ourselves with no direction from the reception staff. When walking into the room, we were greeted with about 20 flies and dust everywhere, we later also found some new friends in cockroaches that were crawling round the room, thankfully we had mortein in the car. When booking the hotel we were not informed that the restaurant was not open and there were no food services available at all. In saying this, the man behind the bar was very friendly and accommodating!
When checking out the following morning, there was no information about early checkouts anywhere and no one to speak to. We ended up leaving the key in the room and had to wait for reception to open to call them to let them know.

The manager Allirra is absolutely fantastic!! Resolved my refund issue immediately. Kept in constant contact with me and was easy to talk to. The hotel will do so well if she stays on board :) thanks again for all your help!

We booked underground however got a room up top- not sure if it was underground, if it was on the same level as where we parked lol there was sand and rocks all over the couch. Would I go back? Most likely not but it was a comfortable stay.

We booked here for the underground experience and because it had on site restaurant and bar. After we checked in we are told that the cafe, shop and restaurant are closed for renovations. When I expressed my disappointment the girl said it hasn't been open for 7 months as if I should somehow have known. To add insult to injury the alternative suggested was also closed. $195 for a average room was a bit rich given the lack of on site facilities. There are better options on offer elsewhere in town.

We booked to stay at this hotel on 7th, 8th and 9th of September 2022. Our booking was done in July of last year. We booked 5 underground rooms. The rooms were spacious, but the cleanliness was not up to par. Whilst we understand that these rooms can get very dusty, the dust in the room looked like it had not been cleaned for several days. The bed was the only place that there was no dust. The bedhead, bedside tables and the phone and alarm clock were not cleaned. The bathrooms were not cleaned either. The shower curtain was dirty and mouldy, tiles on the floor were broken. The drainer in the sink was broken and dirty. The towels were thread bare. I have attached some pictures showing the condition of all what I have mentioned above.

We were given a refund for the first night. Although we booked to stay for 3 nights we ended up only staying for two nights.

We booked underground rooms (2) to experience living/staying underground. We were given 2 rooms ground floor.
The other room had electrical problems. Water coming from the taps and showers are dirty.
The rooms were made/done to look underground. Sculpted and painted gyprock.
You can see the vents and electricals but no conduits running.
Definitely not a four star hotel.

Cafe meals were good, the hotel could have stayed open longer with a few of us wanting a nightcap past 9pm on a weekend.
Room was comfortable but the copious amount of spiders and webs in the corners of all the walls wasn't so delightful

Unassuming hotel with a thoroughly engaging and interesting underground discovery exhibit. I stayed in an underground room which was clean, comfortable and spacious. Had dinner at the restaurant which was fantastic also, the set menu was delicious, good value and paired with a great SA house wine. I certainly recommend this desert oasis and would stay again. A very welcomed respite from a long and weary drive.

The website photos do not accurately depict the state of this hotel at the moment!!! It is terribly run down & it was very clear that the bare minimum was was being done to maintain the advertised standard being sold on the website! The pool area was dirty & very poorly maintained! The room was ok at best but nothing like the photos on the website! The place itself is amazing architecturally "but" behind the scenes, this hotel is a dirty, dusty dump being serviced by a skeleton crew!!!!!

We were very excited to stay here. After looking at reviews and photos online it looked like a wonderful facility. Unfortunately we booked an above ground room (room 33) and we were very disappointed.
Room had a very stale smell to it, very old decor and the bed was also very hard. Just not comfortable after you've been driving for 9 hours.
The manager on duty was fantastic to deal with when checking in but unfortunately we ended up staying elsewhere in town.

Loved the WIFI, the fastest and with the best coverage I've ever used. Looks like the best and safest hotel in town but underground rooms are still at the ground level, more of dugout rooms than underground.
Not sure why there's no air conditioning in the room, was sweating pretty bad during the night (we don't like fan blowing on ourselves when sleeping).
The food in the restaurant was quite nice but was on the pricey side.
The underground bar is nice and the barman was very friendly and helpful. Very special and unique experience, will stay there again.

Booked underground room was a little dated but Definitely cool. For the price of the room would have expected little more but can see the appeal when you explore everything is onsite or accross the road. Room was clean and quiet, receptionist lady super friendly thanks

Accommodation excellent.
Terrible experience in restaurant with a very racist and self righteous New Zealand waitress. A complaint has been made to management and they were fantastic about. I highly recommend staying here and as long as the waitress has been dismissed the restaurant is worth it also
Management and all other staff were very friendly and helpful.

Absolutely appalling customer service at the Underground Bar. Upon ordering a drink the glass provided had pink lipstick around its Rim. I politely requested a fresh glass only to be told it was condensation... Condensation is not pink and shaped like lips... Instead started to hold it to the light and argue... Seriously just give me another clean glass!!!

Very very much enjoyed staying underground. Totally amazing to wake up in the dark, not because of the sun. Totally nice sleep. The only thing it's missing is the aircon.
The pricing is also a bit high for the area, but once a life is ok.
Thanks to all of the staff.

Underground rooms are cool! Definitely a different feel to your normal hotel room. They feel cozy. 45 degrees outside and inside is just perfect. Staff seem pretty nice and everything is clean - which is no mean feat here.

It was great to stay here, underground in Coober Pedy, nThe only downside to staying underground is no natural, it was good to have had the opportunity but next time I will be getting a room with at least some natural light.nEveryone should try underground for a few nights, the climate underground is a comfortable 23 deg C most of the time, even when its plus 30 outside.nGo check it out.
