Awesome place and even friendlier staff! Short walk from the ferry. I brought a group to EVH for a reunion, and the staff accommodated our needs superbly. Even allowing us an appropriate space and re-arranging the tables to suit our particular requests. Food was top quality and great portions! Recommend 5/5.

Thoroughly impressed with our experience at East Village Hotel after holding our team lunch there last Friday.

Opted for a variety of starters, including Tuna Tataki, which we all highly recommend. Each plate was a hit, but special mention to the smoked salmon main which was delicious.

Service was exceptional, with our server being helpful and efficient. We sat in the courtyard which was a very relaxing atmosphere for my team, amidst our busy schedules. If you're looking or a good excuse to leave the office, or just a good pub to unwind, we all highly recommend.

Definitely a favourite within our team and will be back soon.

Great to catch up for a delicious pub lunch with my old Yorkshire, Computerland & cricket loving mate Simon - way too many years between beers.

From the grill - a very delicious Wagu Rump Steak served with either gravy, mushroom gravy, creamy peppercorn or chefs roast garlic butter plus choice of sides.

Busy local pubs usually make great, simple meals. That was my experience here... having seen the 'kitchen insiders' review with a full detailed paragraph about their trials and tribulations with a tuna salad, I endevoured to give it a try. Low and behold - and to no surprise to literally anyone - it tastes like a great tuna salad.

I recommend for others to not listen to amateur reviewers who leave so many 1-2 star reviews for small businesses.

Busy local pubs usually make great, simple meals. That's not our experience here. Love the place, and happy to pay $55 for a schooner, soda water, salad and side of Cole slaw...but not these ones. (Btw the white bay beer is sublime). The system is that the food is made, a bell rung and someone comes to grab it and ferry it to you. After watching our meal sitting as several kitchen team walked past it, looked at it and...nuthin, we went to grab it ourselves before the chef kindly obliged. The nicoise salad was sans pommes de terres, that is, no spuds. The beans were 4 whole beans buried under the pack of mixed leaves and halved cherry tomatoes of the lowest quality imaginable. A nicely poached egg, olives, and mediocre anchovies. If youre going to use fresh tuna, atvleaste sear the outer, tataki style to give us some interest (though the traditional tin tuna really works better (though originally, there's no tuna, but I digress). Incomplete, especially spudless but a pass, 2.5/5. Sadly, the slaw was a disaster. I'm old, I'm really old, but in human years, that cabbage made me look like kid. As cabbage ages, it loses its ability to snap when easten, even when dressed. Think of it like shaving with a dull razor. That's what eating that cabbage was like.
We will come back when we pass by again...you never know, the $50 500g beef ribs (expect max 150g of meat) may be the way to go.

Love the trivia night, prizes are generous! Friendly service & happy to help as always. The food is ok, wedges are soggy, but sweet potato fries are great! I must say, avoid getting chips alone $12 gets a tiny bowl of skinny French fries , disappointing ?

Recent visit for a Sunday Roast. It was quiet on the day we visited, but was a welcome break from the usual crowded pubs on the weekend. Food was generous for the size albeit a little skimpy on the gravy which they promptly resolved once we requested more. Beer selection good, wine selection by the glass is great and the venue itself is a cosy local. The staff were awesome and super helpful which made the afternoon. And there was music playing to boot! Will be back.

The east village hotel makes you feel welcome as soon as you arrive, the staff helped my wife and son in his pram (along with a colouring in book) while the Barman helped me pick some drinks, they have a vast range of beer, wine and everything in-between, they are very obliging. The food is also the best, you can tell they take time to prepare the food and hold a high standard.
Not a far walk from the ferry port. Make this your next pub adventure.

Nice pub area to relax. However the chicken schnitzel tasted unpleasant. I thought it was the batter but the taste was also in the chicken. Pub schnitzel isn't hard to get right though it might have just been mine that was bad that day. Also asked for mushroom sauce, don't know exactly what sauce I got, but it wasn't mushroom (see picture).

Calamari was absolutely gorgeous and my partners fish and chips where great! They accommodated for my gf (coeliac) which was fantastic, however, the bread was average. Atmosphere what 100% and the staff where absolutely brilliant! Every though it was New Years they were attentive and helpful. I do appreciate the staff and how they worked around my allergy!

Decent pub. Inside and outside seating, devoted and pleasant staff, extensive range of drinks and food fresh and tasty. Chicken schnitzel was as it should be. Was a busy night but all worked out well.

Lovely back courtyard, a great spot to sit out in good weather and not overly busy either, mostly frequented by local families. The front room of the pub is also nice and cozy, though the indoor dining area has been modernised a little too much for my personal preference. The staff are friendly, the pub is dog friendly, overall a good quiet local.

Had a casual baby shower on a Saturday and the staff were incredibly helpful and accomodating - reserving the front bar and courtyard space for us as the weather was on and off raining. The whole process was simple and the food was great (grazing platter and canapes). Highly recommend!

Nice old school pub with a decent range of craft beers in a lovely part of Balmain.
We went for the Sunday roast which unfortunately was average at best. We tried 3 different meats, and although the portion size was decent they tasted bland. The vegetables were rock hard.. not sure how you mess up roast potatoes!
Will definitely go back for a drink, but we will go to one of the many other pubs in Balmain for a roast next time.

Had a gathering for my birthday at EVH - we had the grazing plate which was delicious and Craig kindly reserved an area of the front bar for us which was perfect. Staff couldn't have been more accommodating and they even have DUNBAR on tap! Highly recommended

Excellent pub, very friendly service and we usually go there for a Sunday roast, excellent food (although get there early if you want their roast beef, it usually sells out fast!)

The East Village is a nice quiet pub with a range of options from an outdoor area, dining area and the sports bar. They serve a good range of pub favourite meals and have a range of craft beer on tap as well. The staff are simply fantastic and go out of their way to make you feel at home, great experience and dog friendly as well.

Great old pub, havent been hear in years. The service was quick, the bartender gave us a small glass of some new beer to taste test. I want to go back and try the menu, it looks great! And lastly, it is dog friendly, they even have a wall of pics of the local dogs that come in.
I will be coming back!
