We stopped here on a very cold afternoon and were able to sit at a table right in front of the open fireplace .
Very good coffee, excellent hot chips and good cakes/slices.
The atmosphere is very friendly and there is also outdoor seating.
We did see a gentleman with a large dog seated outside - so assuming you can take dogs.
We recommend stopping here for a cuppa!

Friday night meal for a birthday. While the venue was full. The Restaurant was an absolute disaster. Meals did not come out together. The food was poor. The staffing levels were non existent for the patron seated. In the middle of the room a curry table that hindered access to the bar. Patrons licking there fingers and then touching cutlery to spoon there own condiments. One person behind the bar refusing to make coffee even though coffee was paid for. Massive line in the middle of the room converging with the line for curry. Hotel old and dated and in need of a really good clean. If your into food rather than alcohol this is not the place for you and is in desperate need of decent management of food and staff.

Only popped in to get away from the rain for a bit but glad I did. We sat in front of the fire, eating a bowl of hot chips and drinking cider and it was a truly hygge moment. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. Would love to come back one day and have a proper meal in

This cafe at Fern Tree is close to many walking tracks around Mt Wellington. We had a slice of carrot cake & coffee after our short hike on the pipeline track to Silver falls. Both inside & outside seating available.

We stopped here for a very enjoyable lunch after exploring the summit of Mt Wellington. We ordered off the specials board - rsmall oast of the day (pork belly with crackling), and the braised lamb pie. Both were excellent. We considered the "small" roast to be quite large, with a generous selection and serving of vegetables. The pork and crackling were wonderful. The braised lamb pie was delicious - great flavour. Yum! The venue was cosy and I could easily having a wonderful, heart warming lunch here in the middle of winter. We visited on a mild autumn day - ecerything was great. Price and service were excellent.

After a long and strenuous hike, my bushwalking companion and I were after a little caffeinated pick-me-up, and considering I have a close friend who works at the Fern Tree Tavern, that is where we decided to go.

Well let me re-phrase, i "thought" i had a friend who works at Fern Tree Tavern, because upon my entry, she made it clear that we were no longer friends. I entered fight or flight mode, truly unsure how to react to my doomed friendship. I tried simply laughing it off, while inside I had nothing but self destruction on my mind.

We got back in my car, tears trickling down my cheek. I started driving a little faster than usual, taking each corner faster and more blindly, I simply didn't care about the fate of me and my bushwalking companion. Now here I am 4 days later, hardly over it, but the service was good at Fern tree Tavern nonetheless, so I'll be back.

My outfit?

Wiggles T-shirt, blue denim jeans finished off with Chuck Taylors.

1st time visit, Father's Day lunch. Very crowded, which is understandable. Very little parking, had to park on side of road and walk a significant distance, only a problem if inclement weather or having someone in group that has restricted walking capability.

Dropped in for a quick beer and a snack. Service was quick and friendly. There was a fire going which made it feel cosy. We had a pate plate and some garlic bread.

The bathroom was absolutely disgusting. Dead bugs and insects on the floor, dust clumps clinging to the edges of the wall, painting falling off, and what looks like mould on the walls aswell. Horrible.

This is a delightful neighbourhood pub. It serves the local community and the many visitors who visit kunanyi. There are music performances and the like in the evenings and weekends. The cheeseburger is generously served, and so is the beef pie. Service is good but can be stained during crowded periods. Support local, and enjoy coffee or a meal here after your walk around the majestic mountain.

Popped in today, Good Friday for lunch and a chill by the fire, after checking out the views. Ordered the calamari, chips and salad for $30 with 15% surcharge for public holiday, chips were cold and calamari frozen..and $15 house wine, not so happy customer..

The Fern Tree Tavern is situated in a beautiful area. It's a decent bar, and the service was very good. But it feels less cosy than the last time I visited a year or two prior, and that's what has always made the Fern Tree Tavern seem so appealing. Especially after a morning on the icy mountain, at the base of which the tavern is situated. The leather lounges are gone from the front bar, and the second fireplace is gone too. In the middle of Winter, I can imagine it being kind of cold and uncomfortable.

I don't want this to come off as a bad review, just because it's critical. I do like the tavern. It's just not as appealing as I remember it being. And when I come down off the mountain in the Winter, the time when I most often visit it, there's nothing I would like more than to settle into a refreshing beer in a warm and homely tavern.

What a lovely experience! Great food, great service.

The quality of the food was very good, decent sized portions, I was pleasantly surprised overall.

It's a little dated aesthetically! Not much is changed in 40 years, but it's awesome!

We stumbled across this little gem on our way from Hobart to Mount Wellington. It was just before 6pm on a Thursday night so it was fairly quiet. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The prices were very reasonable. The menu didn't have the widest range of options but it suited us. We both went for chicken parmigiana. We aren't big eaters so opted for the small serving, which we still only just managed to get through. I had spicy salami on my parma for something different and was very happy. The chips were also delicious and the coleslaw was crisp and tasty. Overall we couldn't have asked for more. Oh, and as the name suggests, the views are dominated by fern trees.

We have enjoyed many delicious meals and had fantastic service here. The salt and pepper squid is the best in town! The staff are always so lovely and happy too! Highly recommend the Fern Tree Tavern!

Celebrated my sons 1st birthday here! Had the whole space to ourselves, lovely platters and were met in the parking lot by the manager "is this the birthday boy" so personal and warm! Highly recommend ?

Good comfortable place for organising small parties, children can play outside where as adults can enjoy their meals inside. There is also a pool table that can be used and a Piano to play if you are a music lover. Make reservations in advance if you want your survive to be customised. The staff is friendly and they will look after you really well.

A great place to stop for lunch or tea after visiting the Mount field area.

Location is quite busy so parking may be a problem.

Food is great. Coffee superb. Service warm and friendly.

Well, it is what it is, I nearly stated that and then finished. But if the food would not have been that nice, I would have left no remark at all. The entrance of the Tavern could do with a bit of welcoming cleaning and TLC. Why not have some nice flower pots and fill them with something resembling flowers or scrubs? Cause whats standing around is trashy. And which Casino donated the carpet? The Tables and Chairs look as if they had been saved out of a flood. The walls beside dining tables have spill marks. It is not tidy inside where people eat. The ceiling looks like an 80's disco lots of cables and cobweb corners .The service is somehow genuinely uncaring, so it does not help to be more genuine in doing it. Is it not a tourist spot, so why the dull outfit?. Even behind the Tavern it looks scruffy, the toilets are bedraggled looking too, what a splash of paint or cleaning with water could do. Well its near enough, good enough. Well it is near Hobart, and good enough, I guess. - So it is what it is.- I wonder why someone who could be elected : Top Tavern in Hobart would be satisfied with offering mediocrity at altitude and'' leisurelyness'' in attitude.

We came across this place after visiting mount Wellington, and had been on the hunt for a roast dinner the whole week, this was the only place we managed to find for one and it was amazing! The best Yorkshire pudding I've ever had! Very cute place, would definitely go back for the roast!
You can tell that the Ferm Tree Tavern is run with love and a passion for providing a great experience for their customers. I'm not a pie person but OMG their stout pie was amazing! So much so that on my next visit I went with the curry chicken pie which was just delicious! My mum said they serve the best pub roast that she's ever had which is a MASSIVE call ? And they have very obviously put some thought into their wine list which when paired with the fire place ? I will most certainly be back ?

Hearty meals on offer here and good selection of local beers. Check the daily specials or ask a staff. They're recommendations were spot on. Love the ambience and fireplace. Very clean toilet and plenty of free parking. There's a small park across the road to take a stroll after the meal.

I'd always recommend this pub for a meal & a bevy. This time though....it was absolutely fantastic. There were two of us dining, our meals came speedily after ordering & my "Basic" beef Parma' was delicious. Cooked just as I asked & it was quite busy too. Spot on!

Ordered the Mountain Burger, it was nice. If they had an option for Angus patties that would be fantastic. Chips were the best butcher paper chips I've had for a while.

Atmosphere and service abounds. Interesting and tasty menu. Try the pea soup with toasted sourdough bread. Would go again and take friends and family. Inside or outdoor dining. Very good wait staff.

Definitely a place we would dine in again. We loved the burger and cant wait to have some more. The staff were friendly and accommodating. There is also a playground for kids just accross the tavern with beautiful tall trees. The ambience here is amazing. Would bring family and friends here.
