Staff were great, room was spacious and clean. Quick drive to everything I needed. Comfortable bed, good air con, good working space for people looking to work and a 24/7 customer desk.

Sherri on the front desk was warm and welcoming, and Jen in the bistro was great too, but unfortunately the room and overall hotel was very underwhelming. The mattress was so soft and in desperate need of replacing, while the rooms small and claustrophobic. The room was also very noisy with street noise, druggies shouting, neighbours bathroom noise and some sort of tradie hammering (most mornings from 6:30am). It has the overall feel of a sad ALH hotel funnelling money in from the pokie room without reinvesting back into the hotel itself.

The rooms here are perfect. The bed is comfy the spa is great. Everything is electric like blinds, windows and curtain.

I have eaten in the Restaurant a few times it seems like the food is very hit and miss. I had the salmon the other day was extremely oily.
The sauce was like it was off the tartare sauce. Squid was nice. For the food i would say 3 stars.
Room for improvement. The staff are on the counter are welcoming friendly and polite :-)

Thank you Sheri for your most welcoming greetings and professionalism You made my life a little brighter and lighter by organising everything I needed. Dinner staff were excellent and the chef too as they all catered to what I requested with a smile. The room was lovely and clean and housekeeping had my extra milk at ready the only negative would be the odd location where the flush for the toilet is located and the wet floor is still very slippery Thank you all

The room was ok, the receptionists were all lovely. The issues we found were:
Our bath had not been cleaned, had a dark ring around it ( had to ask reception to have it cleaned up, and travelling with a 4 yr old is just not nice to have a dirty bath after a long trip);
Lack of toilet paper ( had to ring reception and ask for more);
After a whole day out, I returned to the bedroom and see that my baggage and hanging clothes inside the closet had been moved and worse than that, my Apple charger had been swapped for a cheaper Chinese brand!!
I have recently been diagnosed with heart failure, and for this reason I purchased an apple watch and apple ipad, matching my iPhone. All my chargers have the apple symbol and are grey and white. I took it the receptionist and showed her and explained that it had been swapped during my absence, she didn't really do much about it.. my watch battery didn't last past 1pm the following day after using the wrong charger.. I was forced to replace it with the original charger from a Mac shop. I simply asked the receptionist to give the Chinese charger to whoever had done the swap back to them( they can keep both..mine and theirs..).
The tea cups were always a mess as well as the spoons. I asked to not have anyone cleaning or coming into our room after that.
So they left "clean" mugs directly on the floor in front of the room door. Thank you, but no no. At least on a tray please..
We checked out earlier because we couldn't anymore. It was simply not clean enough for what we paid for. Absolutely lovely staff. But the standards of cleaning, poor.

The hotel has thieves in their team. Who think that people aren't aware of their belongings and unfortunately, some of us are switched on, because the items were brand new! Would I recommend this place? Absolutely not. However I can't blame the receptionists as they are absolute gems of people. Just be wary if you go there.

Decent place to stay for a single night business trip, not recommended for longer stays.
AC was unresponsive in my room, turned on, but no air came out.
I could not turn off the bathroom fan and the door got jammed when I tried to close it.
Bed was comfortable and service was great.

Treated myself for the last night of my holiday and paid almost double what I normally would for a room, room was ok - had the full heat of the sun being a corner room, took a bit for the a/c to quick in. But I could hear absolutely every noise, the guy sneezing next door, the people in the halls, traffic lights, the opening and closing of curtains/blinds in rooms around mine, people on the street and the cars turning in on the metal grate in the hotel parking (all night long) I'm a heavy sleeper but I got next to no sleep here. Not at fault of the hotel but there was also a public breakup and screaming match at 4:30am... perhaps some sound proofing and double glazing wouldn't go astray..

Beautiful room, spa was great, but can't say enough about the staff. The guys in the restaurant had the best attitudes and smiles and reception staff were great!

Great place if you are travelling on the sSpirit of Tasmania. Very close to the terminal and an easy drive. Clean and comfortable room. Breakfast was good and all the staff were great

Whoa! Noisy in the negative review? I can't hear anything even though i left the window open! The staff are friendly, both at the counter and in the bar/restaurant. They provided a complementary drink at the bar/restaurant plus 2 bottles of water in the room. Little things like that will not go unnoticed. The room was clean, great shower.. and a super comfy blue chair. For just $150!! Only stayed for the night to catch the ferry into the mainland. Funny pen. I had to keep it. For memory ?. Well done guys

Food is amazing , I was with a big group food was a little slow coming out of the kitchen even though we were there early and ordered quick as possible. But we have found this to happen before but food is always delicious

I've never had such a noisy hotel room in my life. I paid full price for a room near the public toilets for the bar. Can hear people talking and staff moving things about.. footsteps from the staircase it's going to be a long night...

Overall, this is one of the better places to stay in Devonport even with the new Novatel down the road. Within walking distance of everything you need. Rooms are well appointed, staff are very friendly as well.

I'd give it 5 Stars for a 4Star hotel.

Hate the bathroom as it is glass door, you can actually see the shape when someone undresses to shower. We had to put a towel over the door to get some privacy. Otherwise the beds are comfy and great location. Kettle is not too clean inside.

Very handy location.
Loved our meal in the restaurant.
Big clean rooms. Good bathroom.
Booked direct and received 10% discount on dining and a free drink each. These were nice surprises.

The bed was the comfiest thing I've ever slept on. We ended up booking another night for the end of our Tasmania trip. The staff member we spoke with was super lovely as well. The shower was quite nice and super convenient for us traveling on the Spirit

I had higher expectations. The spa definitely was not for a couple as stated. Our toilet was not cleaned properly and bed looked like it had just been pulled up roughly and the end of the night was quite noisy outside even though we were on the 4th floor. Overall, location good, beds were comfy.

Stayed here for a few nights on a recent visit touring Tasmania. The staff, without exception, were friendly and welcoming. Restaurant and bar service was quick with staff always happy to help with queries. Food portions were generous and reasonably priced. Our room was clean and comfortable and had views of the harbour where the Spirit of Tasmania was docked.

Great service. Lovely room. Restaurant only a 3/5 and a Very loud night club a block away sounded like it was in the next room. Sad because the Gateway it's self is a great place to stay?

Overall quite a good place to stay and I'd stay again. We had an Executive King room which was was good and the bed very comfortable. We had a very good night sleep. The room had a Google TV and Netflix was available. There were bedside USB charger sockets although no bedside points. There were also USB sockets at the desk.

However a number of little things detracted from what could have been a very pleasant stay. The toilet roll holder couldn't hold the toilet roll and kept falling on the floor. The booking process I went through with Night Cap, only allowed me to book one person in the room. I followed this up with a phone call which assured me everything was alright for two people. The online check-in a day before arrival only allowed me to confirm one person. This necessitated another phone call to ensure we had booked two people. My booking included continental breakfast but despite checking the night before this was not included the next morning and I had to produce my original receipt (on my phone) to prove my entitlement.

The meals were very good and reasonably priced. The staff were friendly.

I recently organized a group tour that involved two nights' stay at this hotel. Here is a summary of what happened: some people were happy with their rooms but one room in particular was inferior as it was located besides dumpsters that were in use overnight as well as a pump. Why does the hotel offer this room? Can it not know?
We booked a buffet meal that turned out to be a meal with three choices of main course. Unfortunately several people were ill overnight with gastrointestinal symptoms that lasted some days in one case. The people affected had eaten from two of the three choices for the main course. The hotel reception told them that gastroenteritis was prevalent in Devonport. Maybe so but this was on their first night in the city. Of note, some meals were sent back for reheating as they were served cold. This all points to sub-optimal food handling. I cannot recommend this hotel. I must stress that the staff were courteous and polite at all times. There is a managerial problem. I do not recommend this hotel.

This hotel is very well situated and is value for money. The rooms are very well appointed and comfortable, and the meals very good, but what makes this a great place is the staff. They are great, warm, welcoming and very accommodating - hence why I keep coming back.

Arrived just before closing time as connecting flights were delayed. Received 2 complimentary drinks as part of package. Asked to use them the next day but they refused. Did not even check or try work out a solution.
It's bad customer service like this that will drive people down to the massive new hotel being built on the waterfront no more then a 100m away.

Thank you for your response. The service I have experienced since the review has been exceptional. Even so I extended my stay. Appreciate your response and action to improve customer satisfaction. I will be changing my rating to 5 starts.

Had lunch here today. My Mum and Grandmother both had the roast chicken and vegies. They both enjoyed the meal very much. Myself, I had the Beef Burger and chips and I thought it was one of the best Burgers I've eaten in quite some time. So it was a 5 out of 5 rating for us and would Definately recommend anyone having a meal here. Thanks Guys??'???'???'?

Stayed 4 times over the last month. Great place to stay when working in Devonport. Can't comment on price/value as work was paying. Restaurant was excellent... as was the service.
