Overall, extremely dissatisfied. I waited just over 50 mins for a single serve of tropical pizza. I asked the waiter after 30 mins to follow up on my order and he never got back to me, so after another 20 mins I went inside and waited to get an ETA and to let them know that I need it to be takeaway now. I asked after 30 mins only because I saw 2 other people get served their meals after I paid for mine. One was 15 mins and the other couple was 20 mins behind me - go figure!
Within a couple of minutes the lady told me that they accidentally gave the pizza to another table but this was a fresh one. When I opened the box there was no need for a takeaway honestly. It was small, thin, undercooked, and tasteless and not worth $26. I couldn't say whether they are normally busy as it was a weekend, but I'd never go back. What a joke.

Enjoyed a Wagu Burger here with two friends. Food really hit the spot.

A dying institution! Used to be my favourite place for a big breakfast but left today super disappointed.
Stared with the surly waitress acting like having to seat us was the biggest inconvenience that has occurred in her lifetime, to waiting 40 minutes for our lukewarm big breakfast that has definitely suffered from shrinkflation. Only plus was the kids eggs on toast was a big portion for a kids meal. Will I return? Hell no, Ballarat is full of great Brekky places and unfortunately this is no longer one of them.

Compared to 24th February 1999 (during the "GDLR" Degree Guys!) this place has not changed much - and that is a compliment! Lovely Risotto and Coffee 25 years on - 3rd March 2024! Lovely choice in Music also! Enjoy! ???- ?

Wow this place has definitely changed since I was last here and not for the good! We had two young children with us and there was no offer of a high chair, children's menu or colouring, we had to go inside and ask ourselves. Then we were told to order through a QR code which was useless anyway as you couldn't make changes to any menu options... What's happened to customer service these days?! Then when I had gone inside to ask for a high chair I seen a coffee just sitting on the bench which was delivered to us 5 minutes later along with our other drink so it's like it had been left to sit just so they could be brought out together yet the coffee had then gone half cold by then. Then the food arrived, well the kids Vegemite Toastie literally was some dry toast no butter smothered in a thick layer of Vegemite! The pancakes was what shocked us, it was one single pancake on a plate with a serve of melted soft serve and we added strawberries for an extra $4.50 which were not fresh. We were so appalled considering that the total cost for breakfast was almost $100.. upon bringing it up with them the only offer was some more ice cream to which we said no we won't a refund for the pancakes to which we were told no they can't?! It's safe to say we will not be returning...

Best service in town from the lovely manager with the gorgeous accent. Always welcoming of us, our antics and our cavoodles! ?

Good service with friendly staff. I had a chicken Parma which was a typical chicken parma. Hard to fault.
My partner had the special of the day risotto which was Chicken and mushrooms. It came out with chorizo, chicken and mushrooms. Super salty where she only had a few bites. Not impressed, looked like a slobbering mess.

Great hotel and superb service. We had a great table by a window where we could watch the amazing sunset. The parmigiana was a little dry but tasty. Would go again as the atmosphere was warm, cosy, and welcoming.

Fairly woeful experience at the Golden City Hotel. Not great service though admittedly they were very busy. Pleasant modern interior but disappointing pub meals for a country town. $6.20 for a post mix coke is kind of ludicrous and the steak sandwich was fatty and over cooked. My husbands parma fared better but my meal left me feeling a little queasy. Why is it so hard to get a decent steak sandwich these days!

Very friendly staff and super accommodating given how busy they were. Food came out fast and fresh, and our doggies were happy. Highly recommended.

Really great service and super friendly staff. The food is delicious and lots of choices to choose from. They were also really welcoming of my assistance dog which I'm grateful for. Was also quiet and peaceful when we went for dinner. Overall, it is a very good quality place to enjoy a nice dinner.

Extremely tough chicken, unsure if it's even breast texture is more like chicken thighs, chips were stale and not crispy, salad was soggy. But the worst part was getting given a table, going to order food at the bar to find someone else seated at my table, absolutely unprofessional and quite sad that they don't hire people to take your order at the table as this issue would of been avoided entirely. Overall worst chicken Parma I've had in Ballarat and I've been here for over two decades. Disappointing how bad it's become as i do recall having great functions here years ago.

Came here for lunch at 2:40pm. We had fish and chips, parmesan chicken and 2 pizzas. The first time I had a pizza with pumpkin,feta,mozzarella,pine nuts! The crust was nice. The pizzas came after the rest but the staff explained so it is ok. Professional staff. I will definitely go back!

Wonderful atmosphere, warm and inviting, and really quick and friendly service. That's kinda where it finished. For what seems like a foodie destination now in such a beautiful city like Ballarat, this meal was a real let down. I was amazed at how bad it was. The garlic bread was the best part of the meal.

Came here for breakfast only. All the staff were on point and did a great job - although the barista could do with some smiling tutorials... but he made a good coffee. Food came out at a reasonable time and the taste was great too. Price about average. Good atmosphere. Will be back for sure

What a hidden gem this place is! We were 2 large tables of 28 out of towners in Ballarat for kids sports. Great menu selection and food was great! Very busy night but order process was easy and smooth. Would recommend.

Accommodating for our dogs, the outdoor seating area is nice and shaded. Water was also provided on a hot day. The service was average. They were busy but unfortunately did miss a few of our items and it was hard to find staff to assist. Food was delicious however and we still had a great time.

Friendly staff. Quick to bring drinks. We had a pizza which was really nice I had nachos absolutely worst I've ever had. Very plain with a small handful of cheese and very tart tomato sauce all over it. Would be five stars if the nachos were not so awful.

we were in town for a family vacation away from the hustle and bustle... had visited Sovereign Hill and was famished... was seated and served in a matter of time... food was flavoursome and service was perfect...

Ended up having dinner here when another establishment wasn't open(even though they took our booking)
Was even better than where we were to go to!!

Saturday night 18th Dec 2021, great atmosphere, friendly staff, food was absolutely beautiful. Make sure you check the specials, so glad we did. Haven't had a good pub meal like that in ages. If you're looking for a good feed, that's the place to go!

We tried the tapas share platter of duck spring roll, arancini balls and lemon calamari too. Food tasted very fresh. Coffee and cake was absolutely mind blowing! Just perfect balance to drive your taste buds crazy. You would pay a bit higher prices. But I feel worth it for the historical place and overall ambience.
