It's nice and clean hotel. The room is spacious and comfortable. After we checked in, we had our dinner in the hotel restaurant. We ordered Highland Venison and Mushroom Pot Pie, Seafood Chowder, Half Shell Miso & Ginger Tasmanian Scallops and the Sweet Potato Fries. Each dish is well prepared and taste is good. At the time we visited there it was in Autumn 2022. I can imagine it would be cozy to have dinner there when it is winter.

Me and my mate travelled from Launceston on weekend in morning , when restaurant opened we wanted to have breakfast but ladies at the front said no we cant accomodate you as its booked. I was not aware of booking thing which is on me but while more then half of restaurant was empty they could have accommodated only us two. They asked us to go to servo to get egg and bacon roll instead . Wow !!! We stayed outside for a while and still it was empty. Had to drove back all the way to Launceston to fill our stomach . Thanks !!

Fantastic meal and drink prices. A great selection of meals cooked as requested. Service was excellent. We camped out the back on a powered site

We stopped in for an impromptu Sunday lunch and were warmly received and accommodated.
The food is delicious! Beautifully cooked comfort food. I could imagine being up there in the snow, by the roaring fire with a glass of Tasmanian red wine, the delicious slow cooked beef stew with dumplings and a delicious dessert to follow.

Fun hotel (especially when there's snow for the kids to play in), nice open fireplace. We booked lunch for my husband's birthday at 1pm on a Sunday. We traveled 1.5 hours to get there- on arrival it was packed and had a busy vibe. The staff looked stressed. Sadly, it took TWO HOURS from ordering for our food to arrive! We literally had to go and buy peanuts from the bar while we waited. I have never waited so long for food at a venue before, ever! Please consider this if you are planning to book at a busy time (I think you can see from a lot of other 1 star reviews that this is a common issue). Please hire more staff on these days or limit bookings?

The friendliness and warmth of service at the Great Lake hotel has been amazing. Our room is beautiful, clean and cosy with everything we could need. The food and atmosphere in the restaurant were wonderful, we could not fault the experience in any way. Every staff member we interacted with was professional, kind and nothing seemed too much to ask, in particular our waiter Dylan was so patient and helpful. There is clearly a lot of love that has been invested in this business and it is reflected in the incredible staff. We would stay and dine here again in a heartbeat.

Lovely stay on a powered site out here in Miena at the Great Lake Hotel. Super friendly staff who although not having any vacancies, still helped us by running power to us regardless. Very happy. Would recommend this place if you're passing through.

Room was great. Lovely and clean. Day bed along windows was a nice place to sit and relax. Unfortunately a lot of the view was blocked by buildings, water tanks and plants. Nikki (not sure on spelling) lent us a couple of blankets to sit under to watch the footy. The meal was lovely in the dining room and reasonably priced. Really nice atmosphere. Lovely open fire. The staff were incredibly helpful and extremely friendly.

Lunch with a view of the Great Lake.
I had read good reviews and was not disappointed. Friendly and efficient service staff that couldn't do enough for us. I had the carnivore pizza and had to box up half. Only a lumberjack could eat the very large pizza I was served up. Carnivore pizza is enough for two normal people to share. $24. My husband enjoyed the sweet potato chips and garden salad. Both generous servings and reasonably priced.

Loved this place! Was a nice set up and good price to stay! $10 night for non powered site and $20 for power includes water. General store nearby with petrol available, showers free for campers near the back entrance of hotel, toilets clean and easily accessed. Food was nice sometimes and other times mediocre! I had a wonderful apple pie and couldn't fault it but next time I ordered it, it had been over heated in the oven and looked singed on the outside. My stew was nice but the dumplings were a bit brown, again it was reheated till it was overdone. So I guess if they have different cooks may mean the difference on what the food comes out like. All in all I did love the place and it's location is a bit out from most shops etc and I am glad that while there they had everything u could need for your stay!

We stopped by here on our travels to grab lunch and gee was it worth it!

When this place is crankin, expect to wait a little longer for your meals, but the service was great and the food was greater for me and my family.

Really enjoyed the chowder and prawn salads. Hope to visit again on our next trip and stay a night or two!

Recommend for sure!

Thank you very much to James, Alex and the rest of the crew at the Great Lake Hotel in Tasmania! It was our first camper van trip and we had 4 families with young kids rushing towards our caravan site late at night. With the vehicles low on diesel, raining and freezing (for our standards), we literally were out of options and we were so fortunate to have chanced upon the Great Lake Hotel. James was very accommodating, letting us top up our vehicles, offered us hot delicious meals and a great place to stay. The crew was excellent and service was top notch! Rooms were well cleaned, comfortable and reasonably priced. I highly recommend this place to anyone touring Tasmania and we are sincerely grateful for your awesome hospitality!

We stopped here for lunch while exploring the Great Lake area. The staff were very friendly and we sat by the windows overlooking the Great Lake. I had a very delicious pizza and would recommend stopping here for a bite to eat. I would love to one day stay here during winter as well.

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay. We booked one of the little fishing cabins. While small, it was great value. Breakfast provisions were extensive, and staff had no problem restocking. There were electric blankets on the beds, which were comfy and a Dyson bladeless fan heater, which was all it took to heat the room. We had dinner at the restaurant, and it was fantastic. The lamb ribs were a stand out for both of us. Highly recommend this place as a stop over.

We have had two lovely meals here now and can't believe we used to drive past. Can recommended the chicken breast, the fish and chips and the husband says the apple pie is the best. Staff are efficient and friendly.

Impeccable service down to the detail which included sourcing us some emergency eggs for our breakfast after we found the supermarket had sold out! The pub has a great selection of beers on tap (T-Bone a great choice) and the meals are fantastic. We've eaten here dozens of times and never been let down!

We stayed on a powered site with our camper for a night at the end of may. We called before arriving to make sure they had a site & the guy at the desk remembered my call which was nice. We had dinner in the hotel which was super tasty. I had veg pasta & my partner, a margarita pizza. Roaring fire & the sound of locals catching up after a long work week was great! Hot showers were very welcome after a couple of days & paid laundry facilities available aswell ??'??

Alex was a terrific host and if you're staying - definitely book in for dinner. Treat yourself to starters of calamari and also the prawns. Meatball also good for staters. For main go for the Drunken Chicken. If you have room, have the Apple Pie. Basically anything you choose will be amazing. We are from Melbourne but if we lived in Hobart we would make the trip for the meal. Tasmania - you're lucky.

Stopped off for lunch with a party of more than 50 other bikers. I had an excellent set meal. The kitchen did an amazing job to serve so many in such a short period of time. Meals were hot and tasty and the bar staff did well to deal with everyone coming in at once.

Fabulous food, we were a rather large bus group and we were catered for beautifully.
Staff very pleasant and accommodating.
Only Hotel I have found that serves coffee bags and not instant rubbish.
Prices were adequate for a two course lunch with self serve coffee or tea.
A little gem in the middle of the Great Lakes.

Great food, friendly service, comfortable. We came for a dinner and thoroughly enjoyed our meal here. Another positive is that all the dishes were priced very fairly.

We ordered a venison pot pie and a trout. The venison had a strong, bold savoury sauce with generous chunks of venison. The trout on the other hand, was more light and the flavours in the dish were very well balanced.

We had difficulty choosing what dishes to order as so many items on the menu sounded so unique and different. The only downside was that we couldn't eat anymore food as all the dishes that came out of the kitchen looked delicious.

We finished up with a peanut brittle and brownie sundae and I was very content at the end of our meal.

Our waiter was super friendly and also very helpful making the experience all the more enjoyable.
