I was excited when I heard that the veggie bar was back but sorely disappointed that only half of it was back - chunks of pumpkin, over-cooked peas, carrots with slightly too much honey, small potatoes and a potato bake which was the nicest thing at the veggie bar. There was no rice, noodles or vegetable bake. The menu couldn't have been more generic - pretty much only burger, schnitzel, salad, steak or seafood - not a patch on previous menus, which, incidentally have not been updated on their website. They had run out of beef schnitzel, beef burger and prawns which cut the choices almost in half. I ended up having to make a choice from the specials which ended up being chicken and mushroom pie. Served with mash and runner beans it cost $32. The inside of the pie did not have a nice thick sauce but when I cut into the pie all the watery liquid drained out onto the plate. I get much better pies from the frozen food section at the supermarket. The mash was delicious though. The service was brilliant but it was overall a massive disappointment. Until The Hampstead has new management, a new menu, a new chef and returns to its former glory, I will not be returning or recommending this establishment ???"
