It was a hot day outside and almost as hot inside. Didn't appear to be air-condition, hope it just wasn't functioning that day. Decor was fantastic, thought it was going to be really good

A quick stop not far off the freeway. Needed to stretch my legs, it was the perfect to stop for a wander, a cold drink, fuel and take in some local history.
Perfect place to stop with a dog too.
Five stars all the way!

They don't accept cash and the prepaid petrol concept is super sketchy as it takes a few days to be refunded whatever credit you didn't use when filling up. No help available as it is all self-serve. Just go to an ordinary petrol station.

Nice traditional spot in the middle of nowhere. Clean toilets, jukebox - I had never seen one before, refreshing cold drinks and the lady there at the counter was very friendly.

Sign said it was a Cafe. All they had was pies and some sad looking sausage rolls. If you're looking for a feed, don't bother.

Unexpected surprise.
I was running low on fuel turned into Johns River.
1st time I'd ever used
Secure fuel bowser.
Received help from the Tavern.
Fuel coffee n snack.
Try it next time you're going north or returning home.

Conveniently, just off the M1, easy access from both directions with huge undercover area.
This service station is also a pub!
Plenty of parking, enjoy the atmosphere amongst historical artifacts, and a most exquisite collection of interesting pieces blending the use of wood and steel. The interior of the bar is a museum of itself.
Say hello to Tony and Dianne, and drink with both travellers and locals.
You could also look us up at Hodge Lodge Grounds cabin and camp and make a night of it!
Friday night Pizza is authentic Italian of Tony's own recipe, and you will be more than satisfied with the fresh hot flavours straight out of the oven.
Try the Johns River Pizza, yum!

Lovely if you have a picnic lunch or your own caravan with food but if not don't waste your time. Stopped for lunch thinking they would have meals available and was told to come back for dinner, I giggled and told the lady we'd be at our destination by then we were sticking around all day till dinner. No snacks, only pies and sausage rolls. If your after a pit stop go to Taree service centre or Port Macquarie service centre.

While we sat here and had our boot sole pizza, multiple groups came and left without purchasing . Pizza, pies and sausage rolls is as good as it gets evidently. They even have a sign calling themselves a cafe...

I wasn't happy that the only form of payment was at the bouser where I had to swipe my card and specify how much I was going to spend......it's a bit hard to know that when your fill your tank up, so you put in the maximum and if you don't use that much it they will release the leftover funds back into your acc within 24 hours(apparently)I had a lucky guess with my total so I can't comment on if it was true or not.... the guy said this is the way of the future....well I hope not

The sign said 'Coldest beer' but the bar was closed. Toilets for customers only, which I would have been if i could have got a beer. No idea when it will reopen. Looks pretty run down.

Driving down from QLD to VIC, had to stop in for somr fuel.

Pretty nice little servo and has a tavern attached that looks fantastic, and packed with character, but seens to be closed for the time being.

Got a takeaway pie, which was surprisingly good.

I hope they reopen their bar and restaurant soon - Looks like a great place to get lunch or dinner.

Fuel was expensive, but essential. Despite that, no toilet facilities for customers. We very inconveniently had to return to the community facilities where there was no parking for cravanners! And turning around was difficult with a large caravan in tow and we had no idea if we continued on if we would have been able to turn. Needs much more orgnisation!

The Tavern is like a museum with many old artefacts. The owners are friendly and helpful. Great pies and coffee! And clean toilets 😊

I'm mildly heartbroken that the tavern was closed as I was passing through, it was chocked full of character and I'd have gladly sunk a cold beer (the coldest on the coast) despite being midway through a road trip to brisbane. Driving could've been someone else's problem.

Tavern isn't functioning at the moment but can buy take ways at the fuel station part. Clean toilets for customers and they own the rest area next door which is easy to get to of the freely for an over night stay. Friendly staff

Tavern is temporarily closed but spent a lovely, peaceful night i their 24 hour free camping area... no bins so please take out what you bring in, or it might end up like so many that have been closed due to gross!
