I had dinner here with 3 girlfriends and we all had the loveliest night. The service was attentive and our waiter made us feel very welcomed.
The food was excellent and so were the mocktails. I am 32 weeks pregnant and loved the two mocktails I had.
For entree, the croquette I had was delicious and perfect starter. For mains I had the barramundi which was so flavourful and delicious.
For dessert, I had the chocolate tart. Sublime!

The food is always good here, so i am here for the service. Greeted by a gentleman at the front, Islander Heritage, and he was absolutely fantastic, warm entry assisted us with a booking that we actually had not confirmed and managed to seat us in. Noticed my wife was pregnant and went out of his way to ask how everything is going and congratulated us. Regardless of our meal experience, that type of service sets up the restaurant experience. Service for the remainder of the night was on point and meals were fabulous as always. Nice work guys. ??'??

Great night at L'Hotel Gitan and highly recommended! Service was excellent and the food more than hit the spot.
Our party of 7 shared the charcuterie, duck liver parfait, steak tartare, broccoli and cheese croquette and duck cigar as starters to share. All of these were extremely appetizing and had the whole table wanting more.

Table ordered mains of Duck, fish of the day, pork roast from the rotisserie and lamb special with green leaf salad, mixed greens, potato dauphinous and brussel sprouts.

I would say the daily changing rotisserie is amongst the best value dishes in Melbourne. The pork roast was fantastic and the portion size was more than generous.

What better way to celebrate my birthday than a lovely long lunch. I have been to L'Gitan more than 8 years ago and I recall enjoying it then. We ordered the grilled octopus, duck pate and scollops for entreee, steak and fish for main and baked meringue for dessert. Entrees and dessert were splendid but I was a bit disappointed with mains, it felt like the sauces were an afterthought and didn't really compliment greatly. Will I go back, of course but my favourite amongst Frederic, L'Gitan and Bistro Gitan is definitely Bistro Gitan (and that brown butter pudding yumm!).

Went there with my partner and had the croquette and rockling colbert from express lunch's menu, plus the risotto and dessert. Everything was beautifully made and very flavourful. I would buy a pot of the croquette and main's dipping sauce if I could. The service was lovely as well. Great atmosphere for a date or a catch-up with friends.

We visited L'Hotel Gitan for an utterly sensational perfectly cooked steak frites. I could not recommend it enough, absolutely delicious! Entrees and desserts were nice but the eye fillet was simply sublime. The venue itself was quite warm but perhaps because we were sitting next to the open kitchen where we could marvel at the steak cooking process. Pleasant atmosphere and faultless meat what more could you want from a Saturday night

TLDR; A decent steakhouse with room for improvement.

L'Hotel Gitan is a great choice for steak lovers looking for a delicious meal at an affordable price. While the scotch fillet may have had a few chewy sections, it was still quite tasty and satisfying. The fries were perfectly crispy, though a bit too salty for some. Letting customers add salt at the table would be a simple solution. The onion rings were absolutely divine, and the bravette was cooked nicely, though perhaps a tad over-garnished. The staff were friendly, making the dining experience all the more enjoyable.

While the flavor profile of the meat could have been stronger, a little bit of butter and sauce went a long way in elevating the dish. Additionally, the steak was allowed to rest a bit too long, causing the internal temperature to drop. Nevertheless, these minor issues didn't detract from the overall dining experience, which we rate a solid 8 out of 10.

If you're in the mood for a satisfying and affordable steak dinner then pay this steak house a visit.

A delightful experience!! The waiting staff were 1st class! The food was both delicious and beautifully presented! I would highly recommend this venue for both small and large groups!

A divine eating experience for me, in terms of French cuisine. A family lunch with my sons where the eye fillet was perfect. The deserts absolutely decadent and delicious. The other dishes wonderful. An excellent French bistro. Steak was cooked rare to perfection and the author is reliably informed that the duck and rockling were also delightful. Wine was a nice Heathcote drop marked up twofold, which is to be expected. Our waitress was noteworthy and succinctly recounted the specials board to us without stuttering. Overall, service was French-speaking and pleasant.

Only criticism was the bread and butter took a little long to come out, as did the main. Nevertheless, the vibe and food was of a high calibre. Would recommend.

A bustling restaurant with a cosy and friendly atmosphere. I can never go past a croquet (because who has time to make them at home) and warm bread with fluffy butter, so they were my favourites out of the starters. The barramundi main course was cooked to flaky perfection. Lastly, I need to mention the elderflower sour cocktail, which is so good!
The hardest part of the night is finding a car park anywhere close.

Scotch Fillet was a little chewy.

Every dining experience I've had at L'Hotel Gitan has been most enjoyable. Always friendly service, beautiful ambiance and the most delicious authentic French dishes. I would have to say, this is one of my faves. Keep up the good work!

I feel like all of these older institutions need to lift their game. When you're paying $70 for a steak you expect it to be cooked as you want it and the sides to be delicious. Neither happened. The service wasn't great and one of the more seemingly senior waiters was being quite rude to one of the younger female staff in front of us.

Everyone at lunch today loved every single meal! My Aussie/French father was extremely impressed! Amazing service, too! Thank you ?

Food is yummy, wine selection is good. Service could be better but otherwise no complaints.
The kitchen closes at 9pm and the staff did give us a good cleaning show, which was a little odd.

What a lovely night out. We came where for a mid week dinner and had the steak and chips and was sooooo good. The staff were extremely friendly as well
