L'Hotel Gitan, Prahran VIC

Just want to say thanks to this fabulous restaurant for a really lovely meal this evening
Oliver was wonderfully attentive too & the food was absolutely delicious. Such a gem of a place!

Finally after countless drives passed L'Hotel Gitan over the years, I decided to try it. I've been to Bistro Gitan and so it made sense to come here eventually too. I do think I like it MORE than Bistro Gitan.
From the outside, you could be forgiven for thinking this was a pub, rather than an elevated casual french restaurant. Inside it's really nice and right off the bat the waiters and staff were friendly and greeted everyone warmly. We sat at a table right near the open kitchen, and it was fun to watch the chefs preparing the food.
Practically everything we ordered was delicious. I had the Tuna Crudo which was soooo good, and the Duck for main (which was the only negative of the night) with the Gratin Dauphinois and for dessert (yes, three courses since the food was so good), the Bomb Alaska, which was a special of the day. The negative for the duck was that the two of us that ordered it, found it to be very gristly, fatty and hard to chew. I just couldn't face another bite. But the entree, the rest of the main and the dessert were incredible, and the service was fantastic. Food came out all together in one hit (something I love about a good restaurant), and they didn't clear the plates until everyone at the table had finished (also top service) and they knew who ordered which dish when it came out. Prices are a teeny on the high side, but I guess most places are these days.
I would DEFINITELY come back here again. Parking is easy, nice ambience, great food and I highly recommend it!

I think this place deserves more stars! Chanced upon this place not that long ago while on the hunt for some good steaks and was pleasantly surprised.

The steak was insanely tender, definitely recommend the bavette - the flavours were incredible. The porterhouse was really tender and the accompanying fries were great too. I've definitely paid more money for far less superior steaks. This was great value, plus delicious.

The staff were super friendly and attentive, even giving us some extra complementary bread when we had been waiting for awhile.

I must also recommend the dessert - the pear tarte tatin was unlike anything I've had before!!! It was divine.

I can't wait to come back and try the rest of the menu!

PS, parking is not fun though. I would recommend parking at Prahran Square not far off, but good luck trying to find decent parking.

Delicious French meal in relaxed setting. Spent $200 for two people. 2 entrees, 2 mains and a glass of wine. Steaks cooked perfectly with delicious French butter sauce. Mash silky smooth.
Plenty of gluten free options. The duck liver was amazing and they served gluten free bread for us.

I had dinner here with 3 girlfriends and we all had the loveliest night. The service was attentive and our waiter made us feel very welcomed.
The food was excellent and so were the mocktails. I am 32 weeks pregnant and loved the two mocktails I had.
For entree, the croquette I had was delicious and perfect starter. For mains I had the barramundi which was so flavourful and delicious.
For dessert, I had the chocolate tart. Sublime!
Highly recommended.
