Mid-week lunch with the family while visiting Hobart. Didn't expect a whole lot, but the food was exceptional! Heaps of keto options for those who are that way inclined. All five of us were incredibly satisfied with all of our choices. Thank you!

We had a dinner for 16 people. The staff were so lovely and helpful. The food was beautiful. Great atmosphere. Thankyou so much for making our celebration night so memorable.

Slow service, over-cooked food and overpriced beer. Ended up sitting outside after our meal just to be surrounded with the best dregs Tasmania seems has to have on offer. We recommend sticking to the waterfront. The luck of the Irish has run out in this tired venue. Luckily the Drunken Admiral delivered for our final night.

The food is generally really high quality. I come here maybe once every 6 months. I do really miss the "let us feed you" options with five courses run by the precious owner.

Look, I can see it has a bunch of character and a fire place and we loved that. Drinks options were good. The food though was really not great at all. We read all the reviews and thought we were in for a good pub feed but the lamb was super over cooked and rubbery and they were super helpful and replaced my lamb with another meal. Which is great! But the Guinness pie I ordered (and my husband had) was over cooked and dry. It was a nice little pub but the food wasn't great for the price it was. Thought it was good to leave this here for the next round of ppl to come.

Fabulous food, staff and atmosphere at this gorgeous old pub. A great mix of clientele as well, indicating that it's great value and welcoming to everyone. Did I say the food was fabulous?

Ordered 2 chicken parmigianas which comes with chips and we added a side salad. Really nice crunch and melted top. The chips were excellently salted and coated with a nice crisp. The salad balanced the fried elements of the meal (good addition of radiochi) Great portion sizes.

Warm interior with a wood burning fire. The layout of the pub is a bit confusing so wasn't sure how to go about getting a seat / placing a order. Very busy on a Wednesday evening with their pub quiz, we didn't book a table but very luckily found a free table for two. Would suggest making a reservation, there was many reserved tables when we got there at about 8pm for dinner.

They serve full pints!!!

The New Sydney is honestly the best bar in Hobart. The food and drink are amazing and the staff are so friendly. It's also probably the most authentic Irish bar I've seen abroad, couldn't recommend more!

Ate here recently with friends, made a last minute booking and then arrived early and the staff were super accommodating and were able to seat us early. Awesome food options for multiple dietary requirements and at a good price. Special mention goes to our super star waitress Claire, she was an absolute delight and is an asset to the team!

What a local, comfortable and warm pub! It opens almost the whole year. The music is not noisy, the staffs are friendly, and the atmosphere is suitable for talking with friends or family. The decorations on the wall is special and characteristic, and they made fire, we were just like setting in a fancy bar on a trip.

We rocked up with no booking and the place was packed. We got seated upstairs - and were the only people there so assume they went to extra effort to accommodate us! We had the parmi, sweet potato, Southern fried chicken and the 'crispy pigs ears'.

Everything was great, parmi had a delicious smokey flavour??'?pigs ears were not quite what we expected, but fantastic (pictured after mostly eaten). Will def eat there again when in town.

Surprisingly spacious. The beer garden out the side is a great alternative to the cute and cosy bar. Okay priced beers and a good enough selection to keep everyone in our group happy. Thank you.

I used to absolutely love this place - it had a super unique and varied menu which you wouldn't find anywhere else. The food is still very good, and they still have a great beer selection, but the menu is now mostly just typical pub food. I miss the old menu.

Great 'pub style' meals tonight... delightful Irish 'Galway Girl' Waitress who seemed to have excessive patrons to look after but did it so well! Best thing (food was very good)was quick response to our request to turn the loud music down...well done Lassie, everyone in area really appreciated!! Would recommend for good 'pub' dining experience.

Great little pub.

Returning to this old uni hangout was a blast. Pint of Guinness and a Cornish pasty (turned out to be vegetarian with spinach), relaxing in the lane listening to tunes and the locals.

Nice quiet place for lunch.

Well gotta say Jack was right. Had a terrific steak cooked perfectly and the beer. What a selection. Staff were great as well was able to sample a beautiful stout and nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommend. If 6 stars was available I would give them that!

Friendly staff and great service. This quaint little pub reminds me exactly of some of my local pubs back in Ireland and the UK and the menu made me feel like I was living abroad again enjoying scotch eggs and a steak and Guiness pie that are to die for! Would definitely recommend this pub for a great feed and good selection of booze! Super cozy with a fire place too.

A wonderful experience, the atmosphere of the New Sydney really envelopes you. I had the pleasure of trying a Cornish Pasty, which was a very tasty alternative to the food I would normally aim for. Well done chef!
Our other diners thoroughly enjoyed their parmigianas and noted that they do not get salad by default - which is a great way to avoid the food wastage that we so often see elsewhere.

They aren't wrong about being the best little pub in town and most certainly one of my favourites! Nothing i love more than a beer in hand, with a gorgeous roaring fire and the most gorgeous and friendliest service you could ever ask for!
Ash and the rest of the team are incredibly amazing and come together like family, it's always very wholesome to see.
My favourites include the porterhouse steak and crispy pigs ears. 20/10!

Nice old feel hotel with LIVE MUSIC ON A SATURDAY!
Absolutely no seating but damn they pull a nice pint.
Complete with fireplace+quirky locals.
Didn't see a bottle of Middleton but would recommend.

If you are into good eating and a cosy winter experience in Hobart, this place is the best. The food is delicious and the staff are super efficient. The scotch egg and the slow cooked brisket with pureed beetroot was so good and filling I wont have to eat again for a week. Extremely good value for money. Highly recommend

The perfect stop on a chilly day. Try the Willie Smith warm cider in front of a blazing fire while you sample some cheesy garlic bread. Great bar staff and mix of patrons make this a welcome escape from winter.

Three of us ate at the New Sydney this evening. There was live music and a pleasant atmosphere but I will not go back there again. The meals were ok, slightly on the expensive side but I accepted that. I paid the bill which for three of us it was $153. Rather expensive for a single course meal. However I was unimpressed at discovering we had been charged $44 for a very mediocre bottle of wine. We ordered a bottle of Chardonnay which was much less expensive. When the waitress came she said that wine wasn't available and opened the screw cap of the bottle and poured it into two glasses before she told us they had swapped our order for this bottle. We were given no choice. She made no mention of the price. We weren't even asked if we wanted this bottle! Now upon looking at the bill see that this other bottle was almost twice the cost of the other bottle we originally ordered. This is a con and a very poor way of doing business.

This pub is must if you're in Hobart. Beautiful roaring fire as advertised. The staff are lovely and the food is beautiful. Best pub feed I've ever had. Special mention to the delicious sticky date pudding for dessert.

OK, so pigs ears is not for everyone but I shared this dish with three other people in my group and WOW. Amazing. The food is way beyond pub grub. MUST GO THERE. you won't regret it. So good.

The food here is expensive and of average quality. Shepherd's pie was mince and mash. Tasted okay. No salad pretty oily. The Cauliflower pie glutinous and salad was o
ff. Interior is very worn and shabby in the bar. Torn seats. Guineas was acceptable but not up to Dublin standards. So lunch was filling but shabby. Tasmania has generally extremely high standards in food. This is sub par. The cheap pub in Cygnet is far superior in comparison. As an international traveller I would not recommend this pub.
