We recently stayed at Novotel Olympic Park Sydney from December 30, 2024, to January 2, 2025, and unfortunately, our experience fell far short of expectations.
Upon arrival at 10:30 PM after a long and tiring day, we encountered several issues. The check-in process failed to inform us about the hotel's two entrances. This led to unnecessary confusion when we emerged from the Pullman Hotel across the road with our luggage, only to realize we had to cross the road again to get to Novotel. This inconvenience could have easily been avoided with clearer instructions at check-in.
When we finally got to our room, we discovered multiple problems. While the lights were functional, none of the plug points worked, and the TV was also non-operational. To make matters worse, the in-room phone wasn't working, forcing us to physically go to reception. While the receptionist promptly fixed the issue (a blown fuse), this was not the start we had hoped for.
The problems didn't end there. On December 31, after returning from the fireworks, we found the air conditioning wasn't working. Additionally, the in-room dining experience was disappointing. The late-night menu was misleading and didn't have the items we ordered. One item described as BBQ chicken turned out to be a pizza, which was very unexpected.
While the room was spacious, the cleanliness left much to be desired. The sofa and carpet appeared dirty, which made the stay uncomfortable.
On a positive note, the hotel's proximity to Sydney's CBD was convenient, which was the primary reason for our choice. However, the location alone cannot make up for the inconveniences we faced.
Overall, our experience was far from the standard expected of a Novotel property, and we left feeling disappointed. Clearer communication, better maintenance, and more attention to detail are necessary to improve future guest experiences.
