Our arrival was met with two minutes of awkward silence before the receptionist even acknowledged us. We were pleased with our room overall, as it was a great price for a newly renovated room, fitted with more then enough amenities. Although, its location next to the bistro's outdoor area meant a slight compromise on privacy. It seems a bit like a game of luck, but privacy could be greatly improved by simply having all the blinds reversed.
We were also concerned to discover that the door leading to the neighbouring hotel room was completely unlocked on both sides, leaving us with no way to secure it. Noise might be an issue for some, as we could clearly hear children and adults banging, shouting, and running about in the rooms and corridors past midnight. We were even woken at 6am by the same commotion, along with interruption from cleaning staff in adjacent rooms - though we did enjoy a bit of their gossip.
On a brighter note, the bistro's front-of-house staff were absolutely exceptional, friendly, and accommodating. The house wine selection was of a higher standard than what you'd typically find in most pubs and restaurants, though the prices reflected that quality. The wait for food was a little uncertain but never inconvenient. Unfortunately, the fish and chips were served cold and wasn't worth the food poisoning or the $30 price tag, while the beef burger was excellent - comparable to a fish and chip shop burger but elevated, perfectly suited to a coastal town.
