Fabulous pub, never had a bad meal, great beers on tap, especially the Vanilla Milk Stout. Staff super friendly and efficient, patrons very welcoming of visitors. Been coming here for many years and will definitely recommend this place.

We spent the weekend in Tumut and went to the Oriental Hotel for dinner, 2 of us had the 300g rump steak and I must say it was so tough it was ridiculous my wife had chicken schnitzel which was over cooked and hard the only meal that was decent was my daughter's and she had a chicken burger.
Unfortunately we won't be back for a meal there.

Expensive and run down. Sydney prices for a drink. I arrived at 5.59pm ordered drinks and told that happy hour prices don't apply as it was 6.02pm when it came to pay. Happy hour finishes at 6pm.
2 lemonades (for the kids) and a beer cost over $17.
Don't bother, better pubs, food and places to stay in Tumut

I cannot recommend this venue enough.

We had a large private function on the upstairs balcony & it was absolutely beautiful. The staff were very accommodating and kept an open commmunication leading up to the event, to ensure that we had everything that we needed.

This is a beautifully & tastefully restored building, with an upstairs bar to keep functions private, making it a unique experience for the area.

The food was absolutely beautiful & everything was delivered up to us so all we had to do was enjoy the stunning views & the beautiful breeze from the river.

Thoroughly looking forward to another visit.

We had a pleasant dinner at The Oriental on a Sunday night. It wasn't very busy and the food came out very quickly. The rump steak was good value. The menu is quite narrow but we saw a number of people enjoying the oven baked trout.

Pub meal was good - rainbow trout and sides. Only three boring dessert options. Location on side verandah good for fresh air.

We had a booking for 30 prior to a family wedding the next day. Staff were lovely, the verandah was perfect, meals were great including accommodating dietary requirements and we had a fabulous night - thank you to all your staff we'll definitely be back!

Trout was nicely cooked but still swimming... in the salad dressing. Vegetarian nachos, meh! Evening bar staff surly and $15 for a schooner of craft beer...

Love staying at old pubs where your bedroom has a door to the balcony where you can watch people do their thing. They also supply earplugs - not that I've needed to use them.

Bit hesitant to leave this review as I don't want it to be packed the next time my family and I visit. Two nights in a row we attended for dinner and both times the food and service was 5 star and more. The gentleman who brought out our food (for 8 people) never forgot our order and always knew what was left to come out. The food quality and size was perfect both times. Our 2nd night was to make sure it wasn't a one-off the 1st night, and it wasn't. Yea it's an old looking joint, but it's very clean (toilets) according to my 'ocd' wife lol Highly recommended (when we're not in town lol)

A nice traditional 19th century regional Australian pub, but I wish the owners would appreciate this and give the building a much needed maintenance face-lift.
Customer service was very nice but kitchen was a bit slow even though it was only moderately busy.

My wife and I had dinner here, and we left quite impressed. I had the locally caught whole trout, which was seasoned and cooked beautifully, my wife had the Karaage chicken, once again, cooked brilliant! Would eat here again and again.

Terrible food. Wine, beer and local drinks are great just do not eat here. Worst vegetarian nachos experience ever. BBQ source and kidney beans in nachos are an absolute no. Also other meals including chicken parmigiana reported as bad. Staff are friendly but what goes on in the kitchen is abismal...

Great food. The whole snowy mountain trout was delicious. As was the beetroot and halloumi salad w trout. The Portobello mushrooms starter was nice but small for the price. The chocolate mousse cake was yum. The live music was really nice too - acoustic guitar. Overall I recommend a visit.

Let's start on a positive note and why we came back. Stopped in for a drink after lunch time and service was amazing from a lovely young Lady working the early shift.
Unfortunately the night staff were nothing of the like. Totally rude and condescending from the get go, followed by cold nachos and a mushy trout. Sad to say, the entree which arrived after was swimming in oil to the point all the crumbing slicked off the squid. If you like living life on the edge of food poisoning, with a side of bad service this is the place for you.

The staff on around 3pm serving drinks were great. However come back for dinner and its another story. Rude bar staff, asked for wine list and told by older lady to go get that from the other end of the bar. Food, well i think Dominos produce better, we had what they call beef nachos and it was rubbish the rest of the was cold and the trout was average. Anyway thats our time here make your own choice.

Found this walking about the town, as visiting for the weekend. Saw cocktails available sign.
We found a nice spot outside. The barman was so friendly. He had never made espresso martinnis before, did an awesome job, so ordered 2 rounds.
They had no hot food available other than some pizzas. They were ok.
Great customer service.

Had our work dinner up on the balcony, great service, awesome steak's and excellent cocktails. Great Gin menu and choice of local wines and the beer is cold! Highly recommend.

Kitchen closes well before advertised time if busy - can't handle capacity. Toilets have been vandalised and not fixed to the point where the flushing component is barely usable. I keep going back despite this as the atmosphere is good.

Love this pub!! Stayed on Monday, very quiet, great beds, spotless bathrooms. Great staff, nothing was too much trouble. Thanks for having us Tumut, we love your town!

Staying for one night. Rooms are very cheap and very basic, so in terms of getting what you pay for it is good. Just do not put expectations too high. Pub was lively when we arrived at 8pm but we didn't go. Both room and shared bathrooms were clean.

Visit this place, the food and people service is outstanding. Driving through never again. I had the scotch steak and it was perfect. We also had the special which was a curry chicken with jasmine rice.
So delicious.

A pub should remain a pub serving beers but don't worry about any food service.
I could have spent $38 at Maccas down the street having a feast, rather than forcing a very over priced and deep-fried steak into my belly. The steak taste like chicken from the oil that's been cooked in.

Way overpriced for the quality of food. Scotch fillet was $35- they very cheekily slog you another $3 for sauce (like $35 isnt enough) requested salad and veg was told thats not possible so asked for veg only, got a tiny portion- steak was way over cooked also tasted and looked like it had been deep fried, very very disappointing, give this place a miss pple, stick with a beer and maccas from down the road. What a shame.

Chips good. Asked for aioli, apparently $4.00, I refused, the boss I'm assuming told me it's for service..and offers me $2.00 back but i never had any. I didn't want the $2.00 , I wanted a small amount of aioli.. who pays for aioli in a pub, especially $4.00 overprice dx for standard presentation and meal. I liked the beer on tap.

We really enjoyed our visit here. The staff where nice and professional. They have a great variety of beers on tap and the owners also own a gin distillery so they offer gin tasting by appointment! Food is amazing and they have a great mix of meat, pasta, pizza and desserts! Will definitely come again.

Expected a bit more than just one piece of broccoli, couple slices of carrot and a quarter corn for a meal thats worth $24. No salt or pepper on my meal, chicken was watery?? No crunch to it. Staff seemed friendly.

We stayed two nights at the Oriental. Had dinner both nights in the bistro. Matt(behind the bar) was run off his feet(as were all staff)but he continued to multi task, got the job done and we were looked after beautifully.

Friendly and helpful staff. Love the Pretty Parrot Gin which is made by this pub. Recommend it highly. Try the tasting platter of gins and purchase your favourite. My personal choice is the rhubarb and pomegranate gin
