Exhausted after travelling 3 hours to Ballarat to visit my mother in hospital, I arrived at Oscars at 9pm to a warm and friendly reception. I hadn't eaten since breakfast and they insisted on making me a couple of fabulous sandwiches which they brought up to my room. It was a truly uplifting reception and I was very grateful. My room was lovely - tastefully decorated, very comfortable and warm on a cold night (my pics don't do it justice). Breakfast the next morning and oat milk latte also recommended.

Fantastic experience. We didn't stay but had breakfast there. Service was amazing. The food was exceptional. Pricing was surprising in all the good ways. $60 to feed 3 people (2 hungry adults and a toddler (I also had the most expensive breakfast menu item)) plus some coffees. Given the atmosphere of the business, it is an absolute steal. Would recommend to anyone in the area whether living there or just passing through. Have had family stay there in the past, and they absolutely loved it.

Noisy function venue with accommodation upstairs, uncomfortable bed, tiny cold dingy room with no storage. No mention of disruptive noise in rooms prior to our stay or at check in. Spoke to duty manager, didn't really care or offer any recompense. Accommodation parking taken up by restaurant patrons so no available parking on site...can only imagine reviewers giving this place 5 stars are used to camping. I've been on more comfortable school camps! You've been warned!

Delicious food, good portions and reasonably priced. The Soup n Sandwich is a bargain at $22, huge bowl of soup and a packed toasty.

Service was not great, we asked for water 3 times and we still didn't get it. We asked for no tomatoes on the toasty, but it came with them.

Beautiful food dessert and service.
They had a chef down full house and still managed just fine! You wouldn't have even known. So lovely.

I enjoyed a lovely lunch in the Restaurant. Just as well the food was good because despite arriving for an early lunch with few people, the food was a very long time coming. Then we were all but forgotten. I wanted to order a coffee and ended up going up to the bar to order one only to be told that he would send someone to take my order, no-one came! You need more staff! You need to speed up service as not everyone will wait 40 minutes or so to eat. More salad on the plate would have been nice.

The staff are fantastic, providing excellent and friendly service. Food is of consistently high quality and love the atmosphere. Three different areas to sit for general dining and I love that there's the option for quieter areas when I have the kiddos with me as the oldest one has sensory issues, so struggles with loud environments. Love the coffee, the service and the building. One of my favs!!!

Nearby access to the high rise car park is handy when the majority of carparks in Ballarat central are meter or max 2 hour parking. First it was warm which is a bonus on a cold Ballarat day. We were in the garden room for a birthday celebration and there was a good selection of drinks on offer. The venue was big enough for quite a crowd and the food offerings were great. The squid may have been a bit hard to handle but was well worth it and the satay chicken sticks were another winner. I was full by the time the pizzas arrived. Friendly and attentive service made for a great birthday celebration.

We had a lovely stay at Oscars.
The room is quite small with not much room to move. It was all good for 1 night though.
Staff were all very friendly and helpful and lovely to deal with.
The restaurant area is lovely and the beer garden really nice to sit in and relax.
The bed was really comfortable and the room clean.

Loved my one-night stay here. A warm welcome, fairly simple but well-equipped room, a hot shower and a lovely dinner. But the reason why I will return is the service. Everyone was extremely pleasant, but both Brett and Stephanie went above and beyond in ensuring I had a comfortable stay - a big thank you to both of you!

The restaurant staff are all excellent. In particular Finn who is super courteous friendly and provided great recommendations. The menu is good bistro food and caters to all special dietary groups. Dessert options were great with gluten free, small serves with some items. We were so happy with the lunch we booked our next friends catch up for 2 weeks time.

This review is ONLY for the Cafe/Bar of this establishment as we did not stay at this hotel so can not say its good or bad.
my experience at the cafe was absolutely divine: our waiter, Finn was very polite and pleasant, he was attentive and always smiling (the interesting thing to me is that waiters do NOT work for TIPS in Australia) and food was very good! The first time I had the Warm Chicken Salad which was soooo good and the second time I had the Beef& Mango salad (YUM) and my aunt had the Fish & chips both times: she was pleased with her food as well. This restaurant is in a central part of Ballarat and close to all shops. Anyways, I absolutely recommend and will dine at this Cafe if I ever find myself in that part of the world again.

Oscar's is right in town so easy to get around. The restaurant meals and service are superb. The rooms are comfortable and well appointed. If you have a room on the road side then expect some traffic noise at night.

I always enjoy staying here. Room 1 this time which overlooks the main street but was still quiet. Nice meals/drinks. Central location. Staff were all lovely. Upstairs accommodation provides security if you are staying on your own.

Shared dinner and drinks for wife's birthday with her sister & hubby. Girls enjoyed cocktails and we all had a beautiful dinner in a relaxed atmosphere. Service was exceptional, with a special shout out to Stephanie - you made our night out one to remember !!

stayed for one night. room and shower very clean .bed was too firm for my liking .thats just me though. get a backroom though lot of trucks going through . just remember it is an old pub. been renovated very nicely though .ate at bistro i had steak and wife had marinara. very nice indeed. i was amazed at how clean it is and i looked for dirt.

I had lunch at Oscar's on Tuesday 12th July. The wait staff were very attentive without being overly so. The food was absolutely delicious. I had a chicken parmigiana with salad and chips. Totally recommend it. The service was top quality along with my lunch. I'm going back again.

Just a great place all round for either a meal or just coffee and cake. Beautifully decorated inside. Plenty of space to sit without being in other peoples laps. The wait staff were friendly and the food was served in a good time. We went for lunch and the meals were delicious. My flat white coffee was perfect. The prices were reasonable and the portions generous. Will definitely go back again and can highly recommend.

Old hotel. They tried to renovate the accommodations but didn't do a very good job. I rate it 3 star but the tariff is 4 star. Food and service is very good.

Usually great but tonight the chefs were either busy or the grill was too hot - medium rare steak was well done and the lamb cutlets were charcoal. But the waiter was very enthusiastic and made up for it with a coffee voucher!

Moved to Ballarat in September. 2021.
Have tried dining at various places and Oscar's meals are second to none so far. The 'Eye Fillet' was one of the best ever & the 'Pulled Pork Roll' was the best I've ever had.

Excellent hospitality. Great location. Co-located with great bars, restaurants and function rooms.

Have previously been here and couldn't fault however on our most recent visit unfortunately we weren't overly pleased. The food wasn't the best, fish & calamari were very oily but iced coffees and milkshakes were great. The service was pretty good until one girl started clearing the table while my partner was still eating and went to take his plate. Big no no in hospitality. Probably won't be back in a hurry unfortunately 😕
