Pig & Whistle Tavern

I think this was the best parma I've ever had. It's a cute little country pub up in the hills with open fireplaces and lots of greenery surrounding it. I had the Irish parma which is the breaded chicken sat upon chips and has bacon and melted cheese on top and the. curry sauce smothered all over it. It was amazing and a decent bloody serving which put me into a food coma for the remainder of the day. For dessert I went the sticky date pudding and it was also the real deal. I've been dreaming about another parma daily.

The good: A sweet little venue bursting with authentic charm, nestled in the beautiful surrounds of Olinda.

The meh: The service wasn't rude but, at best, disinterested. The steak was nicely cooked but over-salted and plated with so much oil (whilst also topped with two huge discs of butter!) that it was absolutely swimming in grease.

I'd certainly return for a sunny drink by the playground, particularly given the staggering array of tap beers on offer, but likely not for a meal.

This place is a definite winter favourite. We haven't been since before covid, and walking in to see the fire blazing was a welcome site on a nine degree day. The selection of beers on tap is amazing and the food is wholesome, hearty and guaranteed to keep the wolf from the door. Looking to come back soon for Christmas in July. Note that, while we were lucky to snag a table, bookings are recommended as it was fully booked for a Sunday lunch.
PS, the mulled wine is a real treat!

The steak here is served with mustard butter and comes with roast potatoes, spinach & caramelised onions. 🧅???"🌱
The Guinness is fairly nice and we got a sticky date pudding which probably had too much sauce but other was good
