A great country pub. There are fireplaces galore, plenty of variety on tap, and a menu that is a cut above the regular gastro pub. Very close to the station and ample parking that create lots of options for getting there. Make sure you book ahead if you want a meal because it's very popular

Great country pub, everything you'd want. Super friendly staff, many beers on tap, wicked menu from the kitchen. Food was outstanding. Its the little pub that really delivers.

Not what you'd expect from the outside! Fantastic little bistro/bar offering loads to choose from. Good selection of vegetarian offering too. Reasonably priced given the portions sizes which are more than ample. Service friendly and beer cold. Just what you need!

Beautiful pub. So much history on the walls from the goldfields era. The food is cooked in full view of the diners which adds to the theatre of the place. The beer garden is great and the chargrillled foods coming out wafts thru the place. Must try pub

What a great little pub, quick and efficient service, only had the mains my partner had the lamb shanks and they were devoured in short time, I went for the pork, while it was full of flavour and tender I was really hoping for the skin to be crisp and it wasn't otherwise it would have been a five. Well worth calling in to this place

A little bit pricier then your average pub but well worth the price. Full table service for meals (no going up to order your food or using an annoying QR code). Food was fantastic menu has all the pub classics (parma, fish n chips etc) along with great variety of quality restaurant menu items. i had the lamb Ragu pasta and it was cooked perfectly with the lamb being super tender but still maintaining its texture. the Chicken Parmas were also great. juicy and tender. Sticky date pudding for dessert which was a very generous serving. one if the best places to eat in Castlemaine. i recommend making a booking i went on a Tuesday night at 7:30 and it was still packed

We had lunch on Mother's Day, and the place was very busy. Staff were lovely even though they surely would have been stressed, it wasn't showed. We sat right at the busy kitchen and watched the floods of orders go through, each meal coming out looking as delicious as the last, to our surprise they were very fast! Now to the best bit, food quality, quantity and taste was outstanding. It was absolutely delicious. It was a very enjoyable day and we can't wait to return! Thanks for making my Mother's Day more enjoyable. It was a great experience.

Great food. The Parma is made from real chook! The deserts were delicious. And beer! A great range of craft beers from around the local breweries, plus your main stay draught favourites.

Great little country pub with an authentic interior. The beers were great and service was on point. The menu includes all the classics. My only feedback to the chef is to not be afraid to add more salt to the food. Otherwise it's a great place to go as a family or even an evening date.

A wonderful atmosphere - warm and cosy with extremely professional but friendly staff. The menu offers a great variety and the food is outstanding; obviously a great chef and kitchen staff. Great wine selection - will need to return to try the beer/ale selections. A "must visit" venue if you are in Castlemaine! Ring ahead to avoid missing out ... bookings essential. ???

Classic country pub that's warm, interesting and friendly. Service was excellent and the meals were a bit pricey for the quality but were a decent size. We were there on a Sunday and it was busy but good atmosphere and the service didn't suffer. Definitely worth a visit.

The perfect olde world venue for a cold winter's night. It was nice to see many of the old features of the building retained Log fire burning added to the atmosphere. An extensive specials board menu but we stuck with a favourite of fish and chips which didn't disappoint. A good selection of local wines. Waiting staff were attentive. We arrived just prior to the busy dinner time hence the empty tables in my photo. We'll definitely return.

We wanted to love this place, the vibe is lovely and the staff were great. But the food.....such a letdown. The food is bland, partially cooked and not anywhere near hot and not to mention the price you are paying is exorbitant. Not much option around for a Sunday night. So disappointed

Great selection of meals,, fair prices. Pays to book if it's the weekend. Carbonara was just the right amount and was spot on, pork belly didn't have any crackling, bit disappointed but still tasty. Plenty of parking. Worth a go.

Beautiful rustic hotel in very picturesque Castlemaine, but the food was less than perfect for the prices. Fairly bland presentation and taste to most of the dishes served - there were over a dozen of us and the consensus was similar from most. Staff were extremely welcoming though, so no criticism there.

I thought it was quite good here. Disappointed that the beer I wanted was off but the food was fast and tasty. Only issue was we ordered two children's meals and my order of a chicken parmigiana came out in the kids size. My dad and wife both had the curry but it wasn't very filling and on the small size too. Our friend ordered a steak and asked for it rare. It came out too well cooked for him. I wouldn't have made a fuss but the response from the kitchen was a bit inappropriate as you could hear the chef's loud response. Management dealt with it by replacing the meal but they didn't want to cook the steak again. Seemed a bit odd. Other than that, it was a good pub to visit.

Doesn't look much from the street, just a country pub, but inside it's a lovely restaurant, separate from the public bar. I thought the food was excellent. Here is the Thai Beef Salad, the Roast Pumpkin Salad and the Sticky Date Pudding.

My new local and a great little pub. Relax in the beer garden or prop up the front bar telling yarns with the locals. Love sitting outside on a Sunday watching the Steam train rattle past.
