A very vibrant ambiance and decent food but it is the service that makes the experience horrible here.

The attitude to take customers for granted is passed down from the management of the restaurant right down to the wait staff.

I've been here twice now and it is my 2nd visit when I encountered how egoistic and rude the service is here. After ordering 2 rounds of 4 drinks each, one of our drinks turned out to be really pungent and funny tasting so we informed the wait staff of this who came back saying there wasn't much we could do.

Considering this place isn't the cheapest, I turned to the manager to further voice my opinion who was ignorant and merely said that customers should think before they order and he cannot do anything. I further pointed out that the point of hospitality should be to make the customer happy to which he had a smirk which confirms that they really do not care about customers.

I wouldn't recommend wasting your money and valuable time here given how many great restaurants this beautiful city has to offer, Rice Queen unfortunately is not one of them.

I was impressed by their service from the moment I entered the restaurant until I departed. Everything was perfect: the overall service, the quality and quantity of the food, and even the cocktails. Now I understand why this restaurant is so popular in Fitzroy.

I loved this colourful place, the decoration is beautiful. We went there with friends and shared dishes, the taste of the food is really good, and you can share it. Also, we found a variety of cocktails. The personal were lovely. I would really go back to this place.

Went here for a Sunday lunch with the wife and got the Chefs Menu for myself and the Vegan menu for her.

It was fantastic. Phenomenal food, great atmosphere. The layout has had a lot of thought and the staff were very friendly.

Before ordering the food and drink (lychee cider) we were asked regarding any allergies and alcohol strength (they have the cider in 8% and 1.15%).

I've got a decent build on me, and walked away full and happy. Will be back eventually.

Great food, great venue and solid service!

We tried the chefs tasting menu for $65pp, everything was fresh and super tasty, there isn't a dish that we wouldn't have bought on its own!

The venue itself is modest with plenty of theatre and nice dim lighting.

If we had to give feedback, the table was quite small we could barely fit 2 dishes, a bottle of water and wine on the table.

The food also came out really fast, we had to ask for them to slow it down, they happily did so!

Overall 5 stars when compared to other restaurants of this price range!

What a treat of a location to eat! Beautifully decorated, vibrant atmosphere. John went out of his way to make sure we had a good time, and we did! All three service staff were friendly and prompt!

my friend came to visit me in Melbourne for a couple of days and I decided to bring her to this lovely place. We most definitely did not get disappointed. Jamie was our waiter who was the most adorable person ever. He was so welcoming and friendly and made the evening very enjoyable. Also the food and the interior of the restaurant are AMAZING and so cute!!! We both can definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone

We had a great time trying the chef's tasting menu at this restaurant called Rice Queen in Fitzroy the other night 😊

The food was really impressive, with our top favourites being the black truffle xiao long bao, lamb rib bao, and RQ signature beef curry - the portions here were very generous too 🙌🏻

Their cocktails are a mus-try with the super cute and delicious matchamellow being my recommendation if you want to try something different �'�
