What a lunch! They warned us the beef ribs were big but they were much bigger. We started with some beautiful light dumplings, prawn and ginger the stand outs. Along with some haloumi fries. lightly crumbed and fried crispy with a nice smooth, soft and cheesy interior. Next, those huge ribs. served with a nice array of veg. Slow cooked and fall apart rib meat that was soooo good. Washed down with a Mr Micks Tempranillo. A meat and wine experience. Congrats Rising Sun!

We had a beautiful stay at The Rising Sun Hotel. The rooms are very charming, keeping with the style of the era, very clean, well kept. I loved that their original bathroom fixtures are kept and wow it's stood the test of time as the shower was so good ! And hot water was plentiful.
We stayed in July, and the room was wonderfully heated, not draughty or cold... Very very comfortable.
The meal we had was delicious, the steak one of the best I have ever eaten and priced very well.
We found the staff welcoming and friendly, our stay felt like being part of a big family and the beautiful community of Auburn ?
Thank You for making our stay so lovely.

One of our favourite haunts. Such a friendly hotel, with amazing management. There is a fantastic function room which is ideal for meetings and small events. Lovely old country hotel with a wonderful atmosphere.

There was a good menu selection showcasing local produce. They had a feed me option for $85's which I thought was good value. Also, plenty of tapas size choices. The wine menu was excellent, again with many local wineries on there.
The decor inside is very tasteful and outside is good also. Outside has an area which has an open flame grill and was gently smoking away to smoke the meats that were hanging above. The toilets are of a good standard, offering cloth towels instead of paper. I would highly recommend dining here.

We are currently doing a lap of Australia and Auburn is where we chose to ring in the new year .We decided to go into the rising sun hotel on new years day for a coffee. Half way through the coffee the young lady working there came over and said "I'm afraid you will have to move into the bar (where she previously said was 2 hot and stuffy as it was 40 degrees outside) we need this table". Confused as the table had no reserved sign on it we moved and found an uncomfortable stool at a barrel in the bar. As we left I noticed the table we were moved from still had no one sitting at it.

The next day we decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and returned to the hotel. We ordered two coffees at the bar. The older lady working there abruptly asked us why we didn't go to the Cafe across the road. She reluctantly agreed to make the coffees and asked us if we'd like to take a seat outside, I said we would like to stay inside as it was 38 degrees. We yet again found ourselves sitting at an uncomfortable barrel while the dining area was empty.

The rudest person in hospitality we have come across so far on our lap of Australia.I regret having a mediocre dinner here new years eve. Save your money and go to the watervale hotel beautiful food, ambience and super friendly staff.

Came here for a meal, not to stay. Beautiful old pub complete with fireplace - a highly welcomed feature on a chilly day! The food was probably the best pub fare I've ever had, definitely worth a stop if you're in the Clare Valley.

Amazing value, stayed in the standard room which was spotlessly clean and comfy. Meals at the pub were excellent. Celiac safe gluten free meals with dedicated fryer, very impressed! The GF schnitzel was delicious and young staff lovely. Highly recommend!

We were meant to camp this night but the heavens opened up and we retreated to the Rising Sun Hotel for the night.

Gorgeous pub. Hearty meals. We had a table in front of the fire. It was perfect.

The room was quaint and comfortable and we were very grateful the proprietor let our Jack Russel dog stay in the room with us.

Definitely recommend staying here the night and having dinner in the lovely pub.

It's on the market if anyone is interested in buying it. Auburn is a lovely town enroute to Clare.

This is a beautiful, stylish hotel full of character and charm - the stay, however, was not all that comfortable. Small room, bathroom/toilet right in the room *without a door*, and quite chilly at night. Not exactly good value.
The restaurant is cozy and has a very good reputation, so maybe I just made a bad choice. Bruschetta (starter, but the size of about two main courses) were ok (not great) but impossible to eat without making a complete mess, since they came on a tiny wooden board and had huge amounts of tomatoes etc. piled on top of them. Main course/chicken pasta was very basic and way overpriced. Staff were very friendly, and this is clearly a professionally run operation - so I guess I should give the restaurant another try sometime.

The locally sourced food was superb as was the wine. Service was fine but not fast. Worth waiting for the food as it was so delicious.
Staff were helpful and hospitable.
We weren't staying there, just having a meal, but friends have said the accommodation is clean, and comfortable.

Our meals were absolutely beautiful, with very generous servings...nothing to fault here. However, the wine list, was mostly overpriced. Having visited several wineries during the day, we found the mark up over the top! When the wine we ordered arrived at our table, it was without an ice bucket and the wine wasn't cold. The treatment of premium wines, left a lot to be desired. Service was good. Worth the visit for the food only.

There is nothing better than walking into a dining room and hearing other patrons say how great their food is. It literally makes your mouth water. I took my son in for lunch and the food was as every other person in the dining room was saying.... absolutely delicious and massive proportions. Friendly staff, great food, excellent service and great pricing. Definitely hit them up if your looking for a great feed when passing through. 10/10

We ate at The Rising Sun two nights in a row when staying in Auburn.
After a delicious meal the first night I didn't think it was possible to beat it, but the second night the Salmon was superb and perfect!!!
The staff were all lovely and accommodating too :)

A quality character Aussie pub in an iconic location. Just walking into and around the hotel gives a sense of history- even if I did feel like breaking out into "there is a house in New Orleans" ever few minutes.
The staff were great... genuinely friendly and helpful. The menu had a good choice of meals and the food was tasty and well presented- well worth a quick or leisurely stop over.

Hi, Mick,  this is 47 times ( including sending messages or callings as well as physical visits hotel along with other communication methods ) you employed me trial basis without my knowledge and consent along with your company policy ( do you have legal documents to show or proof company policy), and other people or staff issues you blame me ( you should discuss hotel people your issues, and deal that staff , including departing or ongoing head chef, not me )even i did not know about that and impacted my career and future . i started job and i mentioned  all the things ( Ally  and Phil)before starting this job( chef) i worked and what my duties accoding to the terms and conditions of the commonwealth Australia  including state law and employment law along other commonwealth law ,and you send employment letter which did not show or describe anything or without job duties along with no sign by employer I worked kitchen as a Chef and you mentioned employment letter I am cook and reported to the chef or staff ( what I reported can you elaborate???)and I worked with this company trial basis ( what is trial basis ?? And, can you elaborate this scam also and in Australia you can employ paid trial basis only some hours or day but I worked 7 weeks and in the period of seven weeks, why you did not explain my performance ( if you are not happy you should discuss second day, not seven week's judge someone in the terms of the work practices or other issues) and end of my employment ( without notice or written notice)you said to me you have no money to pay wages and you said to me you only employ kitchen hand in the hotel and now you are telling , I am not performing good, and I did extreme hard work and  I am seeking outcome send this letter in the interest of procedural fairness.

Ripper of a pub can't wait till we visit again, the oysters pub grub was one of many surprises. The whole region is well worth a deep dive.

Sub par food and so so service. Very basic food without much flair. The beef burger for example has the most horrid, thick and tasteless patty something that looked like 50 cent bun from a supermarket. While the rest of it was quite reasonable, the thick, tasteless patty really sucked all life out of it. The slaw tasted like something from an industrial barrel. The chips were quite horrid and tiny, half of them terribly overcooked.

We wanted to order a ham and pineapple pizza from the kids menu but without the pineapple, but where told it's wasn't possible. Curious.

There are much better options around - the Watervale hotel for one is just amazing and the Sevenhill one is great as well.

Cannot recommend this place and am not likely to visit again.

We visited during the Clare Valley Gourmet Festival opening weekend, and so it was pretty busy. We only managed to book for the Sunday evening (must book well in advance!).

We hired mountain bikes from them, and booked over the phone - despite a few missed calls initially, it was a pretty easy process. We also booked for dinner, which was delicious and served up quickly. The choice of drinks was also above average for a small town pub/hotel.

The other patrons and locals were friendly and had a great sense of humour. I genuinely enjoyed the stay here.

The room looks like it used to be two rooms with the separating wall removed, and one of the rooms was converted into a private bathroom. Other hotels built in the same time period often retain the two bedrooms and have a communal bathroom instead (double the number of bedrooms). At this particular hotel, they joined the rooms, and so I wish they had a door separating the bedroom and bathroom - didn't really need to hear your partner/family pooping :)

Cosy. They do takeaway wine and delicious steaks. When the fire is on very cute. Recommend booking because space is limited for dinner.

Your typical country hotel, circa 1850, with strong CHARACTER & olde world charm & ambience. The publican, Mick, was accommodating, an absolute gentleman where nothing was too much trouble. We stayed in one of their cottages, small & endearing, but comfortable & excellent value with a continental breakfast provided. Lunch proved excellent as were the staff & service, good value & loved our table by the fire. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience, all a pleasant surprise & would easily recommend one tries this establishment. We will come again. Cheers.

Don't go here expecting pub food because it's so much better than that. This is restaurant quality menu really well executed. A meal is not just a piece of fish or a steak, it's a real meal with interesting salads and vegetables that come as part of the meal not as a separately ordered 'side'. So meals here are good value as well as excellent quality. Some of the usual pub things are on the menu but also some more modern dishes where the chef really gets to shine. Expect steak cooked exactly as ordered and fish cooked perfectly and everything looks great on the plate. Service is also excellent but not in any pretentious way. Staff are friendly and helpful as well as knowledgeable about the menu and the wine list. Wine list favours the local area as you would expect and our waitress was able to discuss the differences between various wines on the list to identify a wine which would suit our individual tastes. She was spot on with her assessment of the wine we chose. Overall, this hotel is right up with the top hotels in SA.

Friendly welcoming service. Even our dog was welconed and treated to his own bowl of water. When there was no room on the front porch to sit we were shown a beautiful part of the garden to sit. Hubby and I enjoyed a beautiful platter with some tasty pickled items. The gardens are stunning. The accommodation looks lovely too.

It's pretty good pub food. Not as good as it used to be, but what it lacks in finesse, it makes up with generous serves. Duck spring rolls were a good surprise.

Lovely setting for our lunch. Even though a large group pre ordered for lunch they managed to not only advise us of a delay but had our meals out in quick time. Pasta and squid were simply delicious. Service outstanding and pricing accurate for the quality of food. Will be back..

We stayed in the Executive Muse Room. What a surprise! A nice wood fire. An amazing old bath with LOTS of hot water. A big wrought iron bed. Perfect for two. Put all these together and put 2&2 together. Lovely.Had dinner at the pub. Food also unexpectedly good. Add great wines and cold Coopers Pale on tap. All good. Included Self help breakfast is basic ( toast, cereal, tea, coffee and juice) but theres full service available from 10am next door in the pub. We sat on the veranda and DIY with the provisions included. Gotta love Spring Valley juice!
