The best option by a country mile for food, bring your thirst as there are more options booze-wise than most metro locals, get tricky on your poison and be pleasantly surprised by the abundance of choice. Stay for a minute or a month, locals are cool, and you can disengage upstairs, depending on how much relaxing matters to you. The beds are large enough for a 6 foot 3 bloke, and the shower pressure is strong, hot and refreshing after blowing the steam off a hard days work or the mornings dustiness from tackling the bar. Check your ego at the door and love this place for what it is, a classic Aussie pub.

Cassilis is a hidden gem just off the golden highway and this pub is a must visit.
The village has a few well kept sandstone buildings plus a few not so, interesting structures.
The old stone building is well kept with outdoor areas to dine and drink as well.
The drinks were well priced and the food looks great.

Modern pub with great quality food options. Highly recommend stopping here on a road trip for a steak sandwich for lunch.

Dropped in for lunch today. Burger was average to just above average if it was $8-10, but $18 is outrageous. Chicken wings lacked taste and were rubbery and chewy almost like they were boiled from frozen. And to spoil the lunch even further our dog who was on a leash was attacked by a local off leash mutt on three occasions and the owner of said mutt could not have cared less. Tried buying drinks over the bar twice but ended up leaving without even having a drink as there was no staff in the bar to sell drinks. Sorry but can't recommend and won't ever be back.

Came across this marvellously atmospheric little pub while travelling. It is an absolute off the road gem. Tiny, friendly, restored tastefully to its 1870's sandstone origins. Comfortable beds, beautiful balcony and a shared sitting room with everything needed for relaxation. The food is delicious. I can't recommend the Royal highly enough. Lyn

Beef hamburgers are well worth the trip for . Flavour balanced very well, with a sauce constructed beautifully with spice and creamy texture. 5 stars from me, with a desire to taste the whole menu over time. Big ??" from me!

I had one of the best mushroom risotto. I love the fact that the place it's in the middle of nowhere, and to get fresh food was amazing!
I enjoyed a gorgeous sunset and sunrise from the balcony.
Erika and Sean and genuinely caring and very welcoming. Really recommend for those that are looking to disconnect.

Friendly, historic and delicious! Good (great!) wine. I had the steak sandwich and holy heck - it's good! The sourdough is fresh and airy without being stodgy. The condiments are flavour packed and home made which makes it taste even better. The chips were piping hot and crispy. YUM. Totally worth the very short detour off the highway. ?

One of the best weekend getaways we've had for a long time. A fabulous community event 'vibed perfectly' with this great country pub. Thanks Sean and Erica - we can't get back there quickly enough.

The steak for dinner was not only perfectly cooked it was a very generous size. Great wines in the cellar if you just ask the owner for something special- it's there. Bar staff super friendly and the locals support is just amazing. Definitely worth a stop.

You know an establishment is good when the township doubles every weekend and you need to make a booking to ensure you get a table. The owners and staff have brought the old sandstone pub to life with their hospitality and the meals are second to none. There's a great range of spirits, beers, wine and cocktails. Food is sourced as locally as possible. The accommodation looks great. Highly recommended!

Arrived at this hidden gem cold and tired after a late afternoon ride from Bathurst. Welcoming hosts, cold beer and a warm fire chatting to locals in the bar, the best pasta dish ever, warm and comfy bed and a hot breakfast for a very reasonable tariff. Would definitely return to this tastefully restored sandstone and timber classic.

A quaint country pub that promises a diverse selection of both local and global alcoholic favourites and a well-rounded satisfying menu of tasty pub style food. Warm welcome guaranteed or your money back. A must-stop on your way to Mudgee.

Well, you don't expect a place like this out here, do you? Just out of a random decision we decided to take the dirt road between Cassilis and Coolah and came by the Royal Hotel. It looked neat and beautifully renovated at first glance. As it was time for lunch, we decided to stay. I was more than impressed by the quality of the food, the friendly service and, yes - the wine list (although being the driver I had to resist...). We were sitting outside but I checked the lovely interior with the big fireplaces. Beautiful bar, and I better don't start writing about the whisky selection. Next time we'll stay overnight, and in the meantime I will recommend this place to everyone heading west.

What a pub!

We stayed the night having ridden motorcycles from Sydney and could not have had a better evening.

The service was perfect; Kelly, Matt and Sean deserve a shout out!

Fire was warm, rooms clean and comfortable and meals of very good quality including the cooked breakfast.

Very much worth a visit for good old country hospitality.
