Sofala is a very quirky little village with a rich history as one of the first gold towns in Australia. The Royal is a great community pub and good spot to stop for a drink either inside, fronting onto the main street, or out the back overlooking the Turon River. The pub doesn't serve food but the cafe over the road does and is happy to run it over when they aren't too busy. Beer prices were $10/schooner as a guide. They have pub darts and there is a pool table and old school jukebox out the back.

Old fashioned pub, nothing fancy. Pies & bags of chips. Customers & staff very friendly. Cafe opposite. Open 3 days a week, at the moment. They have just started up.

Love this old pub. Been a few times and it reminds me of what a pub used to be. No pokies, locals with a story, no frills. Just good feels.

Nice place for a stopover. A little pub with plenty of character. Situated in the old Gold rush town from the 1870's in a narrow street with lots of old historic buildings surrounding.

Traditional country pub full of history. Friendly locals and bar staff. Pies were pretty good - sourced from Dubbo I'm told.

Sofala is one of the oldest places for panning for gold. It is one of the last still surviving towns for searching for gold. A light stroll around the town and you will find the small creek running behind the town. Only 2 and half hours from Penrith were we live. Wether its cold or warm worth the drive.
