Royal Oak Hotel Lidcombe

The Seahorse Bar in Lidcombe is one of the worst places in Sydney. While the room and service are decent, the behavior of the staff is extremely disappointing. The staff often misbehaves for no reason, and the security personnel are unprofessional and lack basic courtesy. Both the guards and bartenders are excessively rude and do not know how to communicate respectfully with customers.

I was subjected to racial discrimination. 😡

Around 1:30 a.m. on December 7, 2024, my girlfriend, my friend, and I (a group of three) went to a bar to have a beer. However, a tall and large security guard of Indian blocked us from entering without any explanation. When we asked why, he refused to give a reason and kept saying, "Not tonight," while threatening us to leave. The bar still had plenty of time left in its business hours, and the place was half of people drinking inside. We are curious why only we were denied entry. This is blatant racial discrimination. I want to report this rude security guard. 😡😡😡

I am writing to formally report an incident involving a security guard who exhibited both threatening and rude behavior.

On December 7th, at approximately 1:30 AM, we approached the establishment to inquire if the kitchen was open. The security guard confirmed it was and asked if we were planning to have food, drinks, or both. When we replied that we intended to have both, he abruptly denied us entry without providing a valid reason.

We then said we would only order drinks, but he changed his stance again and refused to let us in. When we politely asked for an explanation, the guard became hostile, told us not to ask further questions, and attempted to physically intimidate us. Feeling unsafe, we left the premises.

This behavior was not only unprofessional but also highly inappropriate. As customers, we did nothing to provoke such treatment, and we were simply there to enjoy a meal. It is unacceptable for a security guard to act in this manner, creating an environment of hostility and fear.

I urge you to investigate this matter thoroughly and ensure the individual responsible is held accountable. This type of behavior reflects poorly on the establishment and should not be tolerated.

Staff are great. Looks lovely. Has a big screen but lacks entertainment! No pool tables & no live music or Trivia, no karaoke & no musical Bingo!

I didn't stay at the hotel, I tried their pub food which wasn't fantastic.

The steak was well cooked and tender but the creamy pasta boscaiola was terrible. The pasta was overcooked, it wasn't al-dente, the noodles were stuck together, it was more like mac and cheese noodles stuck together. The bacon (as you can see from the photo) was burnt and overcooked, too thick and it didn't complement the bad pasta.

Maybe the chef is having a bad day but I definitely do not recommend the pasta!
