Travelling on Motorbikes and arrived late in the afternoon without any reservation. The staff made some quick arrangements and we were all set up. Some of the best rooms for the price we have stayed in as a hotel room. Stored the bikes out the back for us and nothing was an issue. Great beer, atmosphere and meals. Top notch. If we are ever back that way again we know where we will be staying (might ring in advance next time!) Thanks.

I'm adding yet another 5/5 review for a wonderful stay at the Spalding Hotel! Had 2 nights there to walk the Heysen Trail sections nearby. Fletch and Ange provide outstanding service in every respect, and always with great care and good humour: top dinners and breakfasts in the dining room, comfy room with air conditioned warmth, plenty of hot water in the shower and a bar with a perfect fire, great selection of wines and friendly atmosphere, where the locals were happy to talk to us city folk. And above and beyond expectation, brilliant cappuccinos, and drop off's by Fletch for us walkers!! Thanks for a great experience in the mid north!

The quintessential Australian small town hotel, run by a wonderful couple Fletch and Angie. They are upgrading the hotel and managing to keep the local character and charm of the town and region.
Spalding is a great little town with a strong history and a strong community. The Hotel has great food, a terrific bar and charming accommodation.
I am walking the Heysen Trail, and this was a great stopover. Comfortable bed, quiet rooms, terrific service and the town makes for a great rest day - small shop with hot food options, quiet parks and of course the service of the Hotel. Nothing was too much trouble.
I will stop here again the next time I travel through, by car, motorcycle or foot!
UPDATE: Now a year later and staying another night with my partner. Just as fantastic as my stay last year.

The Spalding Hotel is something special. It somehow hits a very rare sweet spot: it feels more modern than the typical country pub, yet none of the old-timey atmos that makes country pubs so special has been destroyed in the process. Some of the best pub grub I've had, and I've eaten at a lot of pubs over the years. Outstanding.

Hard to imagine a friendlier country town pub. Great hosts. Stayed 3 nights in a comfy room, shared facilities but that was my choice. It's a country pub. Good tucker, cold beer, nice wine, warm fire. Can't recommend too highly. Thanks Fletch. Looking forward to next time.
