Came here for a show in one of Sphinxs rooms. We had dinner booking at 6:30 and went to the show after. 10:30 the show finishes, everyone who went to this show was refused entry to Sphinxs Bar and gaming area, with security citing they had a right to refuse entry to anyone. The gaming area and bar were not closed, there was other patrons inside ordering and playing in the gaming area. Disappointing, we were regulars here. We intended to go to the bar after the show but instead went to a hospitable venue that does not treat their patrons like this. Anyone who wasn't at the event was welcome into the Sphinx. We paid for dinner, drinks and a show and then they refuse us entry to the bar and gaming area for no legitimate reason.
Won't be back. Plenty of other options in Geelong that don't treat you like this.

Great value meals here. I haven't been for many years. I was very surprised. I became a member and was surprised what value I get with the card. My client and I had the seniors meal, and boy, they were a decent size. I definitely recommend coming here lunch or dinner. Fantastic meals and atmosphere

Disappointed in the service here today, we were made to feel very unwelcome and the smallest requests were seen as a major inconvenience from staff. To the point they were taking plates away as we were still eating, a feeling like they were trying to move us on.
Pizza was expensive for what it was and glasses for drinks were dirty.
Disappointed as I've been before for a show and found it quite good.

My husband and I decided to pop in here for a bit of fun at the pokies and dinner. It's was okay. Run down and the staff weren't very friendly. Food was good enough. We wouldn't go back again but it was a cute experience.

We were a larger group and went for lunch on Easter Monday. The staff and service were amazing despite being a busy afternoon. The food was top notch as well. Only thing I ould say is there is room for improvement on the pizza's. Felt like from the frozen section but other than that everything was great!!

Best place in Geelong. Sportsman Bar has reasonably priced lunch time meals and there is a comprehensive restaurant adjoining. Decor is an Egyptian theme that is tastefully done and plenty of space for larger families or groups. The staff are energetic and thorough in their service to their guests with delicious meals being served in a reasonable fashion.

Been coming for years, food has generally been great, but seems to be getting stingy, kids meals are tiny all of a sudden. The surf an turn is now apparently 2 tiny prawns in some mediocre sauce, which is "just how it is, nothing we can do about it".
Won't be coming back in a hurry, which is a shame, as I used to enjoy the food here.

We went last year and it was great, back again 2024 and the food was terrible. My husband got the same as last time, satay stir fry, it was completely different, the satay looked like water downed peanut butter and had no taste. I had the fish with cauliflower mousse and that was it.. too much mousse, a small salad and/or chips would have been nice. We got our dessert for nothing after we spoke to the waitress. Sticky date was like a chocolate cake with a chocolate sauce. Mini pavs OK.
We were told there was a new chef. If that's how the new chef cooks then I won't be going back. Hard to recommend at this stage.

Very busy but got all our meals in a reasonable time. Very nice meal, l must say...?

The staff are wonderful and the facilities are unique, reasonable and good for families.... but... this is not a $40 Steak and the Long Island Ice Teas are equally disappointing.

The schnitzel and parmi's are definitely winners, so maybe just avoid the beef??

We ordered two drinks, two mains and spent $100.

For the cost of the meals here it was not good quality at all.

Took a long time steak was disgraceful. Seafood tower for 2 was even worse not sure how to even rate this place other than probably ok for a parmie even though we didn't have one and would probably not be much better than what we had and at 200 for lunch for 3 people!!!

Would not bother going back here don't mind paying good money for decent food but this was not even average.

Very unfortunate as the space is great and something different.

The food is expensive but tastes really good, between 1 PM and 3 PM on a weekday is a good time to be there as well but it's not the type of place I'd go to often because it would send me broke real quick.

Bed was comfortable, room was showing signs of age and minor damages but did the job. I would stay again. Restaurant was excellent

We ate at the restaurant, great customer service. Great food. There was loads of food. Definitely would recommend the restaurant. They even have a play area for the little one.

Friendly staff in bistro and check in but that's the only part of our stay that was enjoyable. Room was very basic to another level, noisy due to events and crowds hanging outside hotel. I will never stay at sphinx nor recommend it

A few of us stayed the night in preparation for an event that was on in the events room. Our room smelt heavily of bleach on arrival, that we had to leave the door open to air it out. Our other guest's room had a mixture of bleach and chlorine from the pool it seemed???. We were both in rooms upstairs above the pool.
The shower was extremely slippery, that a towel had to be placed on the shower floor to stop accidents occurring.
All the beds in both rooms were that uncomfortable to sit on, let alone sleep on without our lower back aching...that our guests checked out of the accommodation at 6:30am the next morning, giving their room key to us to hand in, due to extremely sore backs from their bed.
Reception wasn't opened at 9+am to hand back our room keys, that we had to leave our room keys with a secity guard going into the venue as the venue was locked up.
Service staff on arrival and during our stay were nothing short of fantastic. Julie at reception was fantastic and people friendly.
The Bistro was fantastic and the food was incredible for the price.
Overall was glad we only had to stay one night. With lack of sleep from sore backs from our beds our stay was duly affected. Otherwise a great place staff & food wise.

$9 for a side of chips is a bit ridiculous. They didn't even bring the chips out with the meal, the cook had no idea what was going on unfortunately. It wasn't really busy but the food took ages to come out and wasn't brought out all together. Half the table got their food while the other half had to wait 20 min for their food. The salad was limp and old. Save your money and eat somewhere else

Great 10$ sports bar meals. Seems always open. Nice atmosphere. Excellent dining room and meals, pokies or a punt, it's all here. Don't miss it.

Room was lovely and clean , all the usual in your room ... The food was absolutely incredible ? we had the karma chicken and the beef cheeks . Definitely come back here again. Such lovely staff also 5? SERVICE

Took the kids here because of the fantastic staues and they loved it. What a cool place inside & out. Staues were fab for photo opportunities. Playground was a massive hit with the kids. The food was good ??'? Service was good and the Fruit Tingle Cocktail ? was yum! We will visit again but we did not stay overnight this time. Access was easy and flat for elderly or wheel chair access ??Really Cool Beer Garden and smokers lounge.

Dropped in for the $10 special expecting a snack so it was a nice surprise to eat a good sized meal. Well coked, spicey drumsticks served with vegetables, the plate was overflowing and the food quite nice. Not sure how they are doing it for the price.
Restaurant is clean, well lit and spacious.

After a very clumsy accident on the morning of an event at the Sphinx, I called not knowing what footwear I could even were. Staff were super understanding & more helpful than I could of expected. Made for a fantastic & comfortable night out

Had dinner there. Food was actually quite good. Not MasterChef standard but I devoured the flathead fillets.
Bar service was a bit slow but most places are anyway

We have eaten at the bistro on a number of occasions and always leave very happy. This chef does his steaks exactly how you order them, blue, rare, or medium.

Brilliant place to stay.
Bistro serves delicious meals, and very large portions so you won't go hungry.
Thoroughly enjoyed this place and definitely be there again.

A fabulous experience and the staff went out of their way to ensure our plans went well. The restaurant and lounge venues were excellent. It is an easy short drive to the waterfront and Deakin. We will definitely stay there again.

Great live band venue. Staff are really welcoming, friendly and helpful. Food is really good with generous serving sizes.

We had a really bad experience here on a steak night. Our steak was not cooked as we requested and we all went home feeling a little disappointed, waking overnight to feel a little unwell was the worst part of it all.
The playground was not clean - rubbish strewn and the dining chairs in the bistro were wobbly due to age. I don't think we will go back based on the above. Such a shame as it's an iconic of Geelong.

Meal was nice.
Had the seafood basket for two & had trouble getting through it all.

The place looks totally wild with it's Egyptian style modelling.
So unconventional & so different makes it really stand out from the crowd.

Family chose this place as we have kids & they have a great children's playground.

Also a massive TV screen for watching the footy.

Took family to view the Sphinx. Had lunch at Sphinx Bistro. Fresh food nice service. Good place for kids.

Always have a great meal here. Staff are friendly. Pokies are great also.

It was reasonable price with good food. I'm happy to come back again if thes would come up as group of people as it was spacious!

Staffs were all generally nice,welcoming and friendly.

Usual hotel food. Staff lovely. No Seniors menu. I don't think my chicken kiev & veg was worth $22.00. Kiev just laced with garlic butter. Usual boring vegies. Hamburger needed to be cooked more inside & was burnt on outside. We'll give them another go down the track a bit. Others were happy in our group!

Nice clean venue. Chefs seem to be exempted from mask wearing (can't tell me because it's too hot cooking on a 22° day- every other venue chefs have masks on!) Worse steak sandwich ever tried. Meat tasted like it was half boiled in its own juices, thinner then 1cm tough as anything and the Turkish bread so hard to bite or cut into, when complained the waitress told the chef and he just shrugged his shoulders and walked off. Good job mate, go find a job you care about and give the venue a better name for its self. The waitress with brown hair today was lovely and the young male (Will i think) in the gaming area was friendly and efficient.

The bistro staff were rude, they took for ever to bring out our meals, they forgot to bring out some of our meals. When we questioned where our meals were they said they brought them out.
They then brought out our remaining meals where one was still half raw and rushed us out as they had another booking even though we weren't finished eating.

Great venue so different! Super happy lovely staff. Had chicken satay my chicken very dry! But would give a second chance

Food was good and pretty well priced. Toilets were absolutely disgusting though. Need regular cleaning during the night and day

Coffee was fine. However if you are going to server meals from refrigerated containers you would find at a fast food shop don't do it in direct view of the customer. I got the "pineapple curry" as there was limited vegetarian dishes. It was horrendous and off putting. Stick to the standard pub food here.

The only thing I don't like about this place is the Pokies.Good place to hangout, plenty to drink, good but limited range of cocktails and even showcasing their local Pinot Noir, I think that's the only local.

The sphinx hotel is an absolutely beautiful establishment with amazing people working there and the local characters that you get to meet there are wonderful.They have something for all ages to do. The food is awesome must have a great chef and very reasonably priced.The rooms are clean and well looked after the only down side that I could say is the beds need to be upgraded.

Have been going to the Sphinx for years now, as a teenager and right up to now. Great friendly place, friendly staff and brilliant service. Atmosphere is great also. You will not be disappointed that's for sure
