We had a really nice stay here,at the old hotel. The rooms have been bought up to a modern standard & have very thick walls,so it was nice & quiet. We had a seafood tasting plate for tea,it was divine! & the t bone chocolate milk stout I can recommend. The service was excellent & prices reasonable. Well done!

Two visits:
First night meals, steak, chips and salad good but roast pork, although tasty, consisted of too thick slabs, veg lacking (potatoes, carrots and pumpkin only, needed a green/corn).
Second visit: arancini great, bowl of veg great but Blue eye Trevalla was definitely on the way out, probably why it was meant to be served in a curry sauce to cover this to a degree.
Overall: pretty good, especially since they aren't too many other options for dinner.

We came for lunch and again for dinner on another day. Both times we had the Cape Grim Beef. It was absolutely cooked too perfection.
The chips, salad and gravy were absolutely on point. We left extremely satisfied and can't wait to come back next time.

Delicious meal. Highly recommend the seafood tasting plate for one. Other members of the family had the parmi - really good; scotch steak - no complaints and crumbed scallops - it was beautiful. Do yourself a favour and have the cheese and garlic bread for starters. Great to see a heavily Tas influenced menu and wine list.

Had lunch at the hotel today after being recommended to eat there.
Very disappointed with the meal. Abolonie was nice. The baked trout was very fresher. And Nice, but the lobster was extremely dry, and the sea chowder was extremely watery, which left a very disappointing experience.
Wish l never had eaten there.

If coming for dinner you should book a table in advance as there aren't many other options in Stanley. Some walk-in customers were being turned away as the place was booked out. Dinner starts from 5.30. They have later sitting times. We chose the blackboard special of a half grilled lobster, and from the menu a scotch fillet steak. The steak was ordered medium but arrived well done. The lobster was fine. We also shared a sticky date pudding dessert which was very good. The staff were friendly and attentive. As mentioned by other reviews food and drink is not cheap here.

Good to see a few Asian offerings in what is otherwise a fairly standard (overpriced) pub menu. The 'indian style' vegetarian curry however consisted of a few soggy vegetables in a very runny brown liquid and is best avoided.

Had lunch here while staying in Stanley. The steak sandwich and lemon lime bitters were yum. Average prices for a pub.

Had a meal here as staying elsewhere. Couldn't fault the service and staff were very welcoming and attentive. Had the seafood platter for one and the scotch fillet. Could not fault it. Close to the best steak I've ever had. All food was amazing. Highly recommended.

Underwhelming meal at the restaurant. A pie that was average. Cold chips which slid off plate when delivered as waitress hurried away. Two pepper pots instead of salt & pepper. A flat soda. No further drinks offered.
Was originally seated in the back corner which is really awful for a woman on her own but relocated myself out to the balcony to enjoy the sunset.
Please rethink your standards of service.

Had lobster and chicken. Nothing special. Prices high. Service adequate. We challenged 2 expensive drinks we didn't have and were refunded without apology. The feature of this town is the view; not the food or hospitality. Nothing special, again

We came to the Stanley Hotel last night for dinner as we were staying there for the night. We had the special bread for entree, one of the scallop pot pies and also the curry. My friend is vegetarian and we were very disappointed by the vegetarian options, there was only one which was the curry. Really not good enough only having the one option. I had the scallop pie which while it was decent, I certainly would not pay $29 for a small, underfilled pie which was only served with salad ever again. The portions of our meals definitely did not match the price and we left hungry and quite disappointed. However staff were incredibly friendly and attentive and we enjoyed our entree.

Expensive food, slow service. Overcharged for drinks that were never purchased. Staff member also dropped a glass of water directly on one of our diners. They were unapologetic dropping this and didn't help to clean up the mess.

We had to wait an hour before someone would even take our food order! They have some kind of policy about people who have not made a prior booking not being allowed to order food for a long time - something to do with the kitchen. This was never explained to us - we were just left hanging and waiting and waiting for ages! We had menus given too us, so will assumed we could order.
We made contact with wait staff several times, and they were polite but did not explain that they have a policy which prevented us from placing an order. We wondered what was going on. It remined me of the TV show "Faulty Towers", actually.

I did tell the staff that we were disappointed with the service, at the end of the night. They didn't seem apologetic, although they listened politely. I wondered where management was in all this and wondered if our comments/suggestions ever got through to someone in charge. Very disappointed.

The bistro staff were fantastic! However the food was pricey and average.
We moved to the front bar for a drink after dinner where local patrons get priority service, they crowd the bar on stools. In some respects I totally get it, they're there so often, and it's great that it's so full of locals and busy with business, but it's a bit tricky for the tourists. I am a tourist so just offering up some advice - if the bar was half stools and half service it could work for everyone. A disappointing experience.

Lovely place to stay. Nookies and crannies, narrow stairs and definitely feels authentically rural hotel, eclectic with original rooms.
Nice fridge, jug, iron coffee and tea basics with ample milk provided. Toiletries,... heater a little hard without thermostat but opening window with matching block of wood was perfect. Didnt try the tempting restaurant downstairs, but menu and atmosphere looked great. Easy checkout, great off road parking, and my service dog was made welcome.

It was a gorgeous room, very clean, very comfy bed and pillows. The balcony off our room was great to use despite the rain as it is protected. The staff were lovely. We loved our stay and will be back!

We were 4 happy people leaving after a great dinner from entree till dessert.
The place was packed because of the scarcity of eateries in September. The staff had their hands full and how the chef's dealt with the orders, I don't know but the food was perfectly prepared and the vibe was amazing. You heard people chatting, laughing and having fun.

Kind regards.

Nice place. Excellent location.
We had a room at the top of the stairs with access to the balcony overlooking the street and The Nut.
Be warned that the stairs are pretty steep.
Really comfortable room, nice and warm when we arrived.
Pretty firm bed and thin pillows. Should have brought our own up.
Nice ensuite, also with a door to the balcony if that's your thing.
Sooo quiet, surprisingly so considering how busy the pub and bistro were when we stayed. Absolute silence during the night.
Price not too bad at $125 per night.
Lovely staff.
I'd recommend it.

We didn't stay at the pub but we did have dinner there one evening. The Seafood Malfaldine was bland, luke warm and did not have the advertised seafood in it. The scotch fillet was OK but way overpriced for what it was. Venue was good and service was OK. Overall, and given it was not very busy, it was a disappointing experience.

Great location, not the cheapest in town but the views and the penguins at night make up for that. Quiet location.

The best service in the NW Tasmania, all staff are well trained and super polite.
Food was ample and good, worth the money, best dinner venue in Stanley.
Great atmosphere, clean venue and good quiet dinner music.
Must book prior as they are popular.

Typical country pub in the Main St of Stanley except that it has been upgraded in all sorts of ways. They manage the overnight rental of a number of cottages in the town but also rent the pub rooms in the hotel itself, which is what we opted for. Our room was upstairs and fronted on to the balcony, which we could access via the two doors in our room. There were lounges out on the balcony. In typical country pub fashion the room is about as high to the ceiling as it is long, so things are compact but they work fine. The room has been renovated to modern standards and includes an en suite which, though quite small, has all that you need. The bed was comfortable and it was super quite during the night. We got a bit warm (in early Feb) but not unreasonably. We also ate in the bistro downstairs which was excellent, and the staff deserve some sort of medal for how they look after everyone. Very impressive, and the same wines were about 2/3 of what we paid in other more exclusive restaurants. The scallop pot pie was a winner. Only warning, if you have dicky knees, the rooms are upstairs and these old hotels (1830s I think) have very steep stairs (two flights) and small tread depth.
