Beautifully appointed hotel in a great location. There were 12 in our group and everyone loved their meals. Certainly more like a restaurant than typical pub food. Most of the time the service was excellent though once or twice the waitress was a little abrasive. Overall we loved the experience, second time for me and the Hotel did not disappoint. Highly recommend for anyone visiting Tenterfield.

We were charged $15 LABOUR + postage to return a charger! Quite the insult when the post office is across the road! I offered to pay for postage without hesitation. We were a group of four guests utilising accommodation over 2 rooms, bar & drinks for 3 hours and a meal & wine together! What a grubby way to make an extra buck!! No repeat custom here... I hope that $15 is worth the loss �'�🏻

Went to the Commercial based on the search engine recommendation. First impressions are it is a beautifully presented area for a bite of lunch. Good range of beers as well as the usual fare. The young bar staff lass was welcoming. The menu catered for a multitude of tastes. My wife's chicken and macadamia salad was delicious, however in contrast the best part of my beef burger were the chips ($4.50 extra). Burger was dry, charcoaled to the point of nearly being burnt as was the bun. A suggestion for the young man that delivered the meal to the table (presume he cooked the meals), wear an apron over your jeans as you looked like you had just crawled out from under a car).
Sorry but won't be rushing back for a meal, although I'll try the stout again.

We saw all the positive reviews and thought we would eat here on our way through Tenterfield. My entree, garlic bread was lovely, but my main was dry and inedible with pesto mash stone cold. My partner had steak and it looked great. My main was salmon and perch fish. Ive never eaten anything worse. I wouldnt bother going there again. I would probably try the tavern or some place else. Expensive and just not consistent. We finished our entree and our main was brought out. Very quick. Not a fan.

We didn't stay here but had lunch on a wet Sunday. Lovely atmosphere, prompt and friendly service and a tasty meal. Hubby ate the beef burger with chips, while I had the panko-coated fish and chips. I even took half my meal away for dinner later as it was a generous serve. Hubby said his burger was really tasty, the patty was excellent - well-seasoned, tender and a generous portion. Had a good amount of sauce and the bun was properly toasted. He loved that there was a kind of coleslaw instead of soggy lettuce. My fish was crispy outside, tender inside. Chips were fine, as chips are. The salad was fine and fresh, and the sauce was tangy. My cappuccino was also good - strong enough, while hubby's ginger beer was - well, you know - ginger beer. Service was lovely. Would be lovely here on a really cold day or night with that wonderful fireplace. Love the historical building and horse trough down the side. Next time will stay here, in the Art Deco rooms.

Food was great along with the service. Had the Rib Fillet on the bone. Cook to perfection. You will see us come back the next time we are in Tenterfield visiting.

Came here for dinner only. It's a cute place but unfortunately our chicken skewers were not cooked properly and was still raw in the middle. Luckily we caught that before getting sick on our road trip

Nicely renovated, bathroom was great with a large free standing bath. Restaurant had good food. The downsides were there is very little sound proofing so we could hear other people's TV's all night and the room was actually really dusty (photo is of dresser, but whole room had a layer of dust).

Even though the meal was nice and the atmosphere was good they listed meals as 'Dairy Free' that had dairy in them. I needed to get the staff to question the chief twice about the food that was offered as 'dairy free' and they came back and told there was dairy in both the potato and the sauce. Shame such a quality restaurant does not know the importance of people's allergies. The person I was traveling with would have ended up in hospital if they ate this 'dairy free' meal. When I spoke to them about how poor this was the answer was 'well the chief organised a solution'. I was more concerned about future dinners being mislead

We dropped by for dinner but only stayed for a quick drink in front of the fire. The menu at the table was about half of that we read in the window and there were so many "not available " and item substitutions that there should have been a temporary menu to read. The waitress did a fantastic job at running through all the menu substitutions table after table, but we looked elsewhere for dinner.

Staff serving were disinterested and miserable. Hurried us to finish our meals and drinks, even though it was only 8.30pm on a Friday night. Paid $50 for a medium cooked steak, it arrived burnt, dry and tough as old boots. Also ordered pasta dish which was listed as containing asparagus and chilli, but neither were present in the dish. Extremely disappointing, The main waitress was very good but seriously, employ staff that know how to smile and don't interrupt conversations to take plates away when everyone is still eating. We won't be back!

We had dinner during our recent stay. I wouldn't give it 5 stars for value as some have. Food was nice but not great. Duck skin was not well cooked so not nice to eat we also had the prawn and chorizo linguine or should I say chorizo linguine as it contained no prawns whatsoever - disappointing but edible. We also thought that considering they offer dog friendly accomodation that there would be heating on the deck to allow us to enjoy our meal outside with our dog in tow - but no, it was v cold!

Very grateful to get a table (without a reservation). Great food, friendly/helpful staff. Disappointed our trip to Tenterfield was so brief.

We had dinner twice during our long weekend in Tenterfield, both times enjoying great food.
Staff were friendly and 2nd visit we had no reservation and fully booked. They squeezed us in and just let us know someone had table booked for later. They served us quickly and we were on our way (we had kids so suited us).
Not a cheap meal but great food.
I would recommend the good!

Very good food, the balance in flavours and textures were exceptional. Good portion sizes for the price. If you stop in Tenterfield, you should definitely stop there.

Incredible food and service. Will be back next time we are in town. Could not fault either of our meals. Prices were very reasonable for such quality food. Ten out of ten!

Just went with our dog to enjoy a lunch out on the deck.
There were obvious signs of construction going on (presuming adding an extension) but at no stage were we advised that they would be starting to cut into the brickwork next to us halfway through our meal.
Had to hurriedly finish as the stench was too much.
When my partner approached the manager about it, he was indifferent and unapologetic.
Said there were tables out front but because we hadn't asked, they didn't bother.
Turns out, we spoke to him when we first arrived and we thought he was one of the construction workers!
You'd think if he knew what was going on, he could have been a bit more proactive.
This is our third and final visit here.
Pity because the food is excellent but each time the service has been terrible.
Staff uninterested in approaching customers, meals are delivered but nobody returns to ask how the meal is or if you'd like anything else.
Soulless atmosphere and the staff all seem to have no joy in what they are doing.
Every other business we have visited is welcoming and friendly in this great town.

Stopped for a meal break. The staff were great and looked after me well. Food was mouth watering and satisfying. Coffee hit the spot.

A great gem in the heart of Tenterfield - our experience was elegant and sophisticated. Despite us travelling over the very busy Christmas break, the team at The Commercial had everything under control. And despite a few leftover dishes on tables, and the occasional empty schooner here and there, it welcome surprise to us seeing the owner clearing tables and helping with service. For us, this was a true mark of a quality experience. The food was served promptly and the bubbles were ice cold, while the accommodation itself was exceptional

Beautifully restored old Pub with fabulous meals at a very reasonable price. The staff are very friendly as well which made it a wonderful dining experience. Highly recommend this place, you wont regret it.

Great atmosphere, food & service. We ordered the seafood hot pot (delicious) chicken skewers (perfectly cooked). Highly recommend & will definitely visit when in the area.

Wow, we stopped here with some friends for dinner and after all my years of travelling and eating in many different restaurants over this great country of ours this was the best i have ever had. We will be definitely be stopping here again on our next trip to Tenterfield.

Stylishly presented rooms & restaurant however our welcome was less than welcoming. Issue made over credit card for security different to the one we paid the room with. Underwhelming reception area & soulless during the day. For a boutique hotel at $300+ a night that we paid, I expected to find a coffee machine in the room.
On a positive note, the restaurant meal was beautiful and generous in serving. Sitting next to the open fire was welcoming during the cold couple of days we stayed.

Four of us had a lovely dinner at Commercial Boutique Hotel. The staff were wonderful - friendly and helpful - could not fault the service. The food was very good pub food - we loved the lamb shank and beef rib.

Went for lunch a few weeks ago as they listed Dog friendly.......asked about seating as the lady was setting up out the front but my query seemed to be an inconvenience as she was flustered setting up (open at 11.30am) and it was 11.45am at the time........came back a little after 12 and was told we could sit out on a dirty old table in the rain......I asked if we could sit on the table on the deck and the guy refused.......there were no other customers in the pub and not 1 of the 3 or 4 staff seemed interested in working.......told them their attitude was appalling and simply went to the supermarket and grabbed groceries for home made cheese burgers and a 6 pack of beer and went back to our accommodation.
Wouldn't recommend this place at all!

Visited the Boutique hotel while travelling through. It was a great experience.
A very modern hotel with a great menu to choose from. Plenty of selections for wines, tap beer and sprints. Even had a few boutique beers to choose from.

Had the fish and chips, cooked perfectly with crunchy crumbing and juicy fish. The salad was great and the hot chips were freshly cooked and crunchy.

They have a beer garden with a great view of the surrounding suburbs/hills.

Welcomed into the warmth of the restaurant with friendly staff, a roaring fire and buzzing with a great atmosphere. We arrived without a booking but a table was sourced before we even sat at the bar. We had a gorgeous bottle of wine and the most amazing meal. Enjoyed the Cauliflower Pakora, House Smoked Warm Chicken & Macadamia Salad with Crisp Potatoes and the Jacket Potato with Slow Cooked Beef Brisket Ragu... AMAZING! Wish it was local to home as we would definitely be visiting again soon!!!

Lovely place to spend the night. Beautifully presented and stylish. Dining in was enjoyable, the meal was delicious. Service was friendly, but slightly confused, a definite lack of knowledge on the front desk about the motel. Including not letting us know the dining room wouldn't open for breakfast in a boutique motel, was a wet and chilly walk to find a meal. Overall, a nice stop in a special town.

Great location on the Main Street. Room was lovely with plenty of space to spread out and comfy sitting area. Staff were friendly and the restaurant and bar serve tasty food and a good selection of wine. Would definitely stay again.

5 stars hotel in a small, charming town. How rare is that?
I have stayed many times at the Commercial for work and for pleasure and every time it has lived to its reputation. It's a top boutique hotel where you can feel the love for attention to detail from those running it. From the decoration, the service, the level of cleanliness, and the food, the are all of a high standard. I will definitely will keep coming.
