We were a table at 7 who ordered all our meals at the same time. Each meal came out on its own with at least 20 minutes between each person getting their food. I was one of the last to get their meal, a chicken Parma. It was edible. The salad was a pile of lettuce with no dressing and just lettuce. I mentioned how mad it was an the waiter said nothing and there was no follow up. Go elsewhere. South Melbourne has a lot of pubs

Firstly l booked a table in the dining room. I was told that there was table service, however no one came to the table for any drinks. There seemed to be 4 staff members with few patrons and still we were directed to order at the bar.
Secondly the bar closed at 9.30. Another important piece of information not clear when l booked.
Thirdly, you don't provide tea or coffee.

I arranged a social event for 50+ people which went fantastically well. I made the arrangements whilst in the UK. Megan was extremely helpful. On the night James and his staff worked very hard, and we had a wonderful time. Highly recommend.

?This is a lovely pub that fits the locale. Sitting across from the South Melbourne Markets it's going to be a tad more upscale.

??We came on a colder Tuesday evening, and the place was bright and quiet but still with enough patrons to give it atmosphere. There was a lovely fireplace that added to the ambience.

?? Being a Tuesday there was a $30 parmi and drink deal. My partner and I both had one each and absolutely smashed it. We were both satisfied with the meal.

? Overall rating it 5 stars as it was a great casual Tuesday spot for date night, solid food with friendly service and we'll be back.

$25 for a beer and a vodka and orange.....quite a sterile yuppy feel. Definitely nothing that felt inviting or welcoming here ....just my opinion. We had 1 drink and left promptly

Went on a Thursday at 1pm. Was enticed with their deal of a burger with a choice of wine/beer for only S25. Took 40 minutes for the orders to come out. Had to follow up our food before it was served and they weren't warm Burger patty was overcooked and the burger overall was dry. Fish and veggies need more seasoning.

The worst Pub meal we have ever had.
The Parma $28 was soggy the chips awful and the fish and chips was as small as a kids serve for $29 one small piece of battered fish about the size of 4 chicken nuggets. The entree calamari was also small about 6 small pieces for $21 The wine sav blanc was nice but the glasses only contained 3 mouthfuls. I usually have a glass with dinner. I ended up have 3 glasses which would be about a normal glass anywhere else snd at $11 per glass. The menu is very limited and does not have garlic bread or any bread on the menu or available. The parma was sent back as inedible and they wanted to charge us for it and then made quite a fuss.
No apology at all. It seemed like it was precooked and then frozen and microwaved to serve. Absolutely awful. We also witnessed another table returning their meal. Dont waste your night out here !!!!!

We shared an antipasto platter. $44 for rather a pitiful collation. Of outstanding disappointment were the miniscule amounts of supermarket olives and gherkins. Venue pleasant and lovely waitstaff.

Today I visited the George for lunch. I had the crab salad. This wasn't an amazing meal. Hardly any crab, mushed up with avocado and very bland white salad with radish. My friends steak and vegetables looked delicious as well as the lentil burger. I really feel the crab salad for $24 needs to come off your menu and replaced with something a lot tastier and heartier. Cheers.

Our group of three arrived early for great cocktails during happy hour and then moved to a lovely table set by the log fire in the dining room for the $25 steak special. Very pleasantly surprised by the surrounds, quality of the food and the ambience.

Five of us for work Xmas lunch. One person got their meal and had to eat it on their own. Then two other meals eventually arrived, which they ate on their own. Final two meals finally arrived after having to chase them up, well and truly after the others had all finished, to the point one person had to leave. Not to mention the fish and chips were disgusting. Absolutely swimming in oil and completely overcooked, as were the fries. It wasn't busy but there's no excuse for bad food ,nor for not serving meals at the same time for a table of 5 eating together.

Post lockdown lunch catch up and for the most part really enjoyed it.

Lovely place with a great courtyard as well. Lovely selection of drinks and food on offer.

The cauliflower and manchego cheese croquet were absolutely to die for.

The hanger steak was very tasty, just a tad underdone - asked for the medium rare and both at the table got more on the rarer side. Compounding it was the lack of steak knives which made us really earn our meal.

Other than that a lovely spot with delicious food.

Decent food and selection. The service is great and friendly with good music. Good vibes all around.

Early in our new found freedom & The George are hitting their spots... great food, clean lines & friendly staff. Couldn't get over the relative peace & quiet given the masses just across the road at the South Melbourne Market & surrounding Cafes, Retailers etc. Will be heading back just as soon as I feel the need... the need for tradition with a hint of the "new". PS: Loved the oven-warmed mini chip buckets & being so close to The Chef's Hat is handy!

If any venue can pull off a 21st birthday celebration for 50 guests with only 3 days notice, it is The George Hotel. The upstairs function rooms were the perfect area for the party. The bar was large and well stocked, there is an open fire, plenty of comfortable seating areas, private bathrooms and room to spare for the DJ/Musician and lots of room for DANCING! Every member of the staff were friendly, professional, efficient and amazing at their job. They made the event extra special. The food was delicious and abundant. The chef was able to cater for the vegan, vegetarian and gluten free guests with less than 24 hours notice. I highly recommend The George Hotel!!!

Great place for a quick drink after a visit to the South Melbourne Market. Plenty of seats outside which is great for a sunny day. Always has a good vibe with live music Sunday arvos. Friendly staff are happy to serve your favourite beverage although the cocktails are expensive, especially for a pub. Special food nights are great for the locals.
