Food was great pub food. Service was excellent
Laughin Lizard
Had the steak and chips, was a busy lunchtime service. Plate arrived and the butter on the steak wasn't melted, the reason was the steak was cold. I ate it as I was hungry but with this place being recommended I was going to book dinner. Not now, steak would have been perfect if it had any heat to it.maybe a small salad or some veggie would make the $24 meal a bit better too

Such a solid meal we had - the way the chef has championed Tassie produce really came through! Excellent vibes, the coldest brews...Highly, highly recommend the broccoli and spiced lamb mince dish and tomatoes with rhubarb vinagrette...or just take a risk and order whatever - they're THAT good. Garlic bread was a party in the mouth, and the green peppercorn sauce paired chicken schitzel gave such a satisfying kick. Everything was freshly and thoughtfully prepared, and I'm so thrilled to get to enjoy food this good. Thank you!
Staff greeted on arrival, smiled & were friendly.
Seated at a table (as preferred over stools) & they advised time we would need to vacate for prior booking which was helpful to know.
Food was interesting & delicious - the Haggis was absolutely amazing, definitely recommend trying it!
Selection of wine/beer/drinks was varied & reasonably priced.
Some of the lower rated reviews previously provided were extremely condescending to staff & poorly shined on the food - perhaps a bad day was had on either end! Highly recommend trying again if you ever had a bad experience, as every day is not the same & we had a nice experience ??
Great gastro pub in the middle of the city. A place to enjoy a cold beer ? with tasty food. Suitable for vegetarian or vegan too, I am a big meat eater but I really enjoy their vegetables, it's a family friendly pub too.

Situated near the city, you will be surprised that Pub's food can be this good. We try a little bit of everything. They have variety of vegetable inspired menu and all of them are so tasty and delicious. If you are in Hobart, Come and try, you won't be dissapointed.

A hidden secret of Hobart! Easy 5 stars. What looks like an average pub, is actually a gourmet dinning experience. With all locally sourced ingredients, they whip up
Some amazing dishes which changes weekly.

Dinner at Tom McHugo's gastropub for the following:
- Fried haggis bao with chilli oil
- Confit beef shin with brown rice polenta with braised escarole and grilled purplette onions
- Brewer's malt pie with malt cream

I've never eaten haggis so was keen to give this go. When it says bao I was expecting the Asian version rather than a pastry but the filling is quite intense and peppery. Haggis is made with sheep's heart, liver, and lungs which explains some of the offal flavour. It's enjoyable along with the chilli jam but think it really needs a tomato relish, some acidity, sweetness, and tartness.

The beef shin cuts like butter and is super delicious, especially those bits that have that meaty intensity of flavour. Immersed in the creamy polenta which is superb you also get the beef juices which add even more flavour. The sweetened onions add a nice balance as well as the chimichurri like slightly sweet and acidic escarole which present great flavours to balance out the meaty richness of the shin.

I was really eyeing a dessert so went with the malt pie which definitely evokes the flavour of malt and is delicious with the light airy whipped cream with more malt for flavour. Excellent finish to the night enjoying impressive fare.

First things first - this is a pub with good food. It will be loud and boisterous and filled with locals having a good time. The menu is seasonal and had a limited selection, but the dishes we had were fantastic. The oysters were fresh and the best oysters I have ever eaten. For main I chose the Roast Lamb. It's served medium rare but was melt in your mouth good.
A fantastic meal that we will reminisce about for a long time.
Possibly the worst pub ive ever been to.

I got a "english longhorn pastrami roll with pepper gravy and chips" aka for 18 bucks i got 4 slices of pastrami, a burnt bread roll, a small bowl of mccains frozen chips and some gravy.
Absolutely horrid.

Id heard the pies here were good, my partner got a lamb mince pie with mushy peas and gravy. Looked like a burnt pie served on a pile of sick. Had no other flavour except pepper.

Great job on "priding yourselved on the life you live" atleast you served hobart brewing co beer and an extortionate rate, because that was the only tasty thing i enjoyed.

The fact that this has 4.4 stars goes to show that you can throw a bunch of fancy words in your menu and serve garbage and people will still think its good. Im going to mcdonalds.

Great little watering hole with a broad enough menu to please most, at great prices.

I had the lamb and pepper pie with mushy peas. Tasty, bit of zing and filling. Hard to find anything wrong, especially for $18. Washed it down with a local ale. Didn't wait long, everyone was very pleasant.

We came here because we read great reviews about their steak & fries. However when we got here, we were told that they have changed their menu. Hence we had roast beef instead with local produce. Not sure what vegetables they were, but so good that it made me eat my greens.

Always a great selection of Tassie beers and reasonably priced meals.
The black pepper fried chicken is incredibly good and a reason to go often.
The music they play is always great too.
Majority of the staff are friendly, however there is always one who just seems like any request is beyond her which is a shame.

Fine dining level food in a non-pretentious pub setting. Always warm, great friendly service. They have Two Metre Tall beer on hand pump consistently, which is a unique treat for anyone who likes great beer. I am amazed. Nothing like it. 5 billion stars

It's a nice friendly local place to hangout. Lamb dishes are so delicious always keep my eyes on menu! Price are reasonable. I love this place so much. So many good memories.

Great local place in the heart of Hobart for a cheap chicken schnitzel with chips. After some poor reviews on this meal, they have really noticed and greatly improved it! The rest of their menu is delicious and extensive also, but if you want a cheap bite for 15 bucks, you can't beat the basic chicken schnitzel!
The beers on tap are great too!
The staff are all so very gracious and friendly.
I highly recommend this establishment!
Freckle Milo
Such delicious food. I love their sustainable attitude towards food. And the size of the chicken schnitzel is absolutely mind-blowing for $15!
