A great quirky hotel, bar, and restaurant. The rooms are an ideal size with en suite and I did book a balcony room which was really cute. It is well situated on Hunter Street with a light rail stop just outside and is walking distance to the beach and other cafes and restaurants
It's in the name that is true to what this place stands for. Upon entering this wonderful establishment, I was greeted by the very cheerful staff. I secured my place at the bar for the evening and enjoyed friendly chats with the bar staff in between their very busy sessions of patrons orders. The atmosphere was vibrant and the patrons were very friendly. Thank you Jess, Annabelle and Abigail, I hope to see you when I return 20... more
Every time I visit Newcastle, I can't help but go for cocktails at this place. The view is incredible, especially during sunset. The staff is lovely and attentive. My favorite cocktail is the Irish Goodbye, and even though it wasn't on the menu last time, they graciously agreed to prepare it for me and my group. Highly recommend!

We stayed for two nights as an extended family group, in two adjoining ground floor rooms (022 and 023). This was a brilliant set up and fitted 6 of us with ease. We had a lovely outlook onto the gardens/playground and then the water. Rooms were spacious and extremely quiet. Bathrooms do need an upgrade but that is my only criticism! We loved the location, right by a bunch of good waterfront eateries and with a convenience sto... more
Newcastle doesn't have an abundance of wedding venues in the heart of the CBD, but Customs is a fantastic location. There is space for the ceremony and reception onsite, with plenty of photo options within a short walk. It's also close to tons of accommodation. Definitely more than just a pub!
Great little pub to stop at for a drink if you're spending the day in Newcastle. Good range of beers on tap. Relaxed atmosphere with just the right amount of trendiness. Friendly staff. Nice area out the back with fake grass where dogs are also welcome.
Had a couple of meals over Easter weekend while visiting family. All the staff were lovely, the premises are modern and clean.
All the food was great and the chicken schnitzel was best ever. Seriously. I had vegetables instead of chips and salad and they were cooked perfectly.
Kudos also to bar staff, would have thought a lemon lime and bitters could be so good?
I am not normally a sports bar person, but after the Nick Cave gig in Newcastle we couldn't find any other bars still open on a Wednesday night. We headed in to the Crown & Anchor for a nightcap and our bartender Chris was so fantastic we ended up staying till closing time. He's a fantastic asset to the business. We found him friendly, generous and accommodating and would actually return because of him. Next time we are stayi... more
I had a great time here. The staff was really friendly and the place is nice to hang around in and have a couple of drinks. They also get some really good bands in so I would check out their Facebook page.
