On one the most honest, authentic and seriously enjoyable hotels in Victoria. The traditional hotel cuisine should get a Michelin Star. If you are a steak lover you should go here :-) The best bit is that staff are amazing. Many good places to dine and enjoy in Ballarat. This place ranks amongst the best.

Due to family obligations, we hadn't been to The Mallow for a while, so spending a couple of hours there on Saturday night was a real joy. The service was as friendly as ever, the food and beers as delicious as ever. Another plus about The Mallow is that their prices are super reasonable, too. Can't wait to go back!
Warm, pleasant venue, has a very calm feeling about it....bar staff are really friendly.....dinner is always good, not sure about the Boxty though....served with Mediterranean vegetables, not my taste I'm afraid. Fish and Chips is always a good choice, tried the Parma, good size for the price, but the side salad isn't a salad...it's a small pot of cabbage with a dressing....avoid that. Open steak...

I had the pleasure of eating and dining in at the unbelievably updated queens head this evening, the entire pub had changed the warming atmosphere and the service from all the staff was amazing, now the food this was next level all the way through from entrees to the desert I will most certainly be returning

Lovely dinner at Oscar's on Friday night. I had the butter chicken, which was delicious. My friend had the warm chicken salad, which he enjoyed. There is always a nice buzz at Oscars. The young waiters and waitresses are very friendly and polite, providing lovely service. I just wish it was a bit warmer.

We went for lunch, and had the $16.50 lunch menu. I had fish & chips, which was fresh and tasty. The only quibble was the salad came with too much dressing for my tastes. Also included in the lunch menu was a free glass of wine, beer or in my case - cider. By all acounts the parma was equally tasty, as was the wrap. Good value and tasty food in comfortable surroundings. Would recommend!

Beautifully restored. Clean comfortable bed and linen. A lift as well as staircase to upper floors. Didn't eat there but food looked lovely. 5 or 10 min walk from rail station. Staff helpful. I booked on a Monday night. $153 but if you go on Sat night it's about $465. Would stay here again.

Had a birthday dinner at the Western Hotel on Fri. Outstanding service from all staff (including a couple of trainees) on a very busy night. We arrived early but the table was ready for us. The meals were delicious and the birthday cake brought out at just the right time making it a memorable occasion.
I went about 3 years ago and the food was horrible, but I ended up going again because i heard it was good and I'm glad I did.
Food was absolutely awesome prefect meal size mushroom gravy was to die for and I even tried my wife's seafood sauce and that was awesome.
My wife and I having it for takeaway tonight for fathers day

This Hotel, which my eldest son recommended, was a pleasant surprise. Food was excellent and so were the prices. Didn't have my V.B on tap but otherwise a good range. Thursday night is a good time to visit as you buy one get another schnitzel for $5; there's more than 30 varieties to try, by the way.
